Memory loss

Hi everyone

It's been a while since i've sent a new post but some advice would be handy.

The last couple of weeks i have been suffering with extreme short term memory loss. Its got to the stage where, in conversations, i've forgotten people's surnames, local road names etc.

I've been on flu for nearly 11 months now.

I am being possibly made redundant in 2011 and won't know until April next year. Can anxiety cause memory loss? Depression? or flu?

The flu is working in every other respect.

hi.. my memory is also getting worse. its mostly friends and work colleagues i cant remember the names of but also street names and numbers esp. phone numbers. i have been on fluoxetine for a year now, my dose has reduced since the beginning of november but my thoughts now are getting blacker, i dont want to say what exactly they are but it worries me so i will have to talk to my doctor about it all again. They dont want you to lower the dose let alone come off the tablets do they, i was asking for weeks for a reduction before they agreed. Back to the memory loss I have never been that good but its definately worse now.

Hi, I had bad thoughts too, I used to have thoughts and scare myself in case I hurt people I loved, my family physically. I felt like I couldnt escape these thoughts and wondered if I ever would. I eventually told my therapist after a little trust was built.

So thankful I didnt have social services on my door. Im not frightened of these thoughts now and they rarely come. I am on Sertraline and I beleive they have helped. I was scared of myself and lost trust in my own mind, it was the only way I could describe it, I had to learn to trust myself again and relise I wasnt going mental or crazy.

They can and will stop. Just dont be frightened of them, and if you get a thought, just say to yourself its just me losing trust in myself and it should relax you.

    Hello,

Nice to see you on here again, hope you are ok. I tried to come off the tabs cold turkey about 6 months ago (bad idea) and got really anxious. I rang the doctor but couldn't remember her name when I got through which was really scary and made me even more anxious. Now that I am reducing really slowly, I haven't had that again.

I have a feeling that worrying/anxiety in itself could affect memory but I'd check with the doctor anyhow,

    Hi everyone

Thanks for all your replies. I do look at this site every day but just forgot to reply to say thanks.

I try to look on the bright side of this problem now. One of my good cyber friends summed it up.

You haven't lost your memory she said, its just that its fuzzy at the moment and perfectly 'normal' for the condition.

I hope you are all coping with the big freeze and the flu of course.

    Kind regards.
