meniere's disease steroid shot

I had an ear infection about a month and half ago. After the infection went away I was left with a full feeling in my ear. 1 week later I had my first vertigo attack. I am now having vertigo attacks once a week. I have done an MRI and VNG Test and the results were normal. I have not been diagnosed with menieres, but im starting to get worried that I am may have it. I dont have any ringing in my ears and if I do it is very very light and does not last very long. has anyone has the steriod shot and does it work. How long does it work for? I am a young guy and my life has been turned upside down from this.

Hi.  This does not sound like Meniere's Disease.  Intratympanic steroid injection could be effective but you might want to ask your doctor to first consider prescribing predisone.  First you would probably try the steroid dose pack and if that is not effective doctor could prescribe heavier dose of prednisone to see if inflamation is what is causing ear fullness/virtigo.  Let us know how you are doing after that.

Hang in there....whatever the problem is it's most likely very temporary and you will be fine after medication.

Was the ear infection in the middle ear or the inner ear?  Was it seen immediately behind the eardrum?  You will need an audiogram in order to help confirm if this is Meniere's disease.  Please describe exactly your vertigo symptom.

It was an inner ear infection. there was alot of fluid built up behind the ear drum. My ear was throbbing after I left the docotors office and started to bleed and puss for a couple days after. I went somewhat dead in my ear while it healing. after my cold and ear infection went away I exerpeicned my first vertigo attack. I have had 2 hearing test and both came back normal. The only feeling I have is my ear feels full. I have a sence of fullness in the middle of my ear it feels like. The fullness has never went away since I had the ear infection. I have tried predisone. I dont hear the ringing noice. Sometimes if i am sitting at home and it's quite i can slightly hear ringing. during my ear infection my left  ear went dead and i had the ringing noise but i did not have any veritigo 1 week after my ear had healed.

This is probably not Meniere's disease, as the audiogram is normal.  Ear fullness is not specific to Meniere's disease, but can be seen in other ear disorders.  The normal VNG is a good sign, meaning that the vestibular nerve in general is okay.  The vertigo you are having is probably related to the ear infection, a result of pressure changes in the middle ear.

They won't say you have menieres until you also have vomiting with the vertigo. Keep a log of your attacks ongoing and share with your doctor. See an specialist if it doesn't go away. I've heard of the steroid injections working for others but they didn't work for me. Worth a try.
