Me again. Do any members here have Menieres but not Tinnitus. I have both but just wondered if you can have just Menieres on its own.

Hi Maria.  Tinnitus is one of the results of having MD.  Some folks have very mild tinnitus that fluctuates in intensity and can become louder at times.  Others have loud tinnitus as the norm but will fluctuate between being even louder or softer.  When everything "is just right" tinnitus can be quite low and maybe not even detected especially after one habituates to the sound.  But in general, tinnitus is one of the symptoms of MD.  If someone doesn't have tinnitus at all then it is unlikely they have MD but rather one of the other many inner ear/middle ear diseases.

Thankyou Tanney. I was curious also because of my gradual hearing loss in one ear that also had a perforated eardrum. I was thinking that both these things could affect my tinnitus but ENT specialist says no that T is in the head not ear which I knew but just trying any scenario to get answers unfortunately not the ones I was wishing for. Thanks again tanney.

Hi Maria, I’m sorry to hear about your MMm diagnosis and your frustration with tinnitus. I think you will discover that there are a few different theories on how tinnitus comes about. In my case, when I have an episode, I tend to lose my low frequency response, which causes my tinnitus to increase. They believe this happens because the hair cells in the inner ear are compromised and the brain trys to compensate, which results in the tinnitus feedback. One way to deal with this is to manage your triggers and avoid any episodes. Also, you can try sound therapy using hearing aids like those from Widex. Hang in there. How frequent are your episodes?

Hi David my episodes come and go by my tinnitus is always there. I haven't had an episode for 2 months but last week had 2 vertigo and nausea and 1 mild one. Was a bit stressed which bought it on. At the moment don't know how to manage the dreaded 2 sounds which are buzzing and like banging. Thanks

Hello Maria, I have the tinnitus, It is my understanding that tinnitus is one of the meniere's classic symptoms

There may be some who don't have it, and if so, that is great for them. It is a nasty symptom
