Menieres Disease - Fullness

Hi, i’m new to the Forum!

Im 28, was diagnosed with Menieres Disease around 5 years ago. It started with the dizzy spells and vommiting, but thankfully those sypmtoms have gone and Im now dealing with the ear fullness/deafness. I have only got it in my left ear.

I find morning time when i wake up my ear has a fullness feeling, but when i get up and move around and get on with my day it seems to clear. I would come home from work in the evening and sit down and then i can feel the ear filling up again, so frustrating. Does anyone else get this too?

Some days my hearing can be fine for a good stretch, even a week! Then others its like 3 days of deafness.

I was wondering if anyone else suffers from alot of wax build up in the ear they suffer with? Thats another problem ive noticed!

Thanks in advance.

James

Hey James. You’re describing something very similar to my MM. I believe my MM has a component related to weather and pressure. I make sure to drink 64-80oz of water through trout the day. I’m also taking betahistine twice a day. This seems to help with the fullness and the hearing loss. Diet is also something I control making sure I dart around 1500mg of sodium per day. I find excercise also helps as I am an avid cyclist.

    Hi James,

i have only had Meniere’s for a year so am still in stage one and relying on betahistine to control the vertigo and sickness. It sounds like you are in stage two where the vertigo lessens but hearing fluctuates. I’ve read so much on the subject it drives me crazy. Like you though I have the ear pressure and distorted hearing. That is very annoying like listening to a badly tuned radio. Betahistine controls this up to a point and it also provides some protection to hearing according to research I’ve read. I also have tinnitus but that is also controlled by the betahistine and only gets really loud before an attack. I don’t suffer with wax but you should have your ear syringed at your surgery. I have noticed that symptoms are worse in the morning but subside after a week while. Perhaps you need another ent evaluation? As you are so young protecting your hearing is important.

Get professional advice from your GP and/or ENT. Those sympyoms may be early warning that Meniere's is coming back - but not necessarily. If you have betahistine tablets available start on your highest previous dose asap to reduce the risk of more permanent hearing loss and tinnitus. If it is not Meniere's taking them will not mask anything else!

    Good luck!
