Menieres help

Hi I am still waiting for my ENT appointment but doctors have suggested that I have menieres. I had an attack a year and a half ago with sickness and vertigo where I couldn't stand. It started with hearing loss two days before and all symptoms disappeared within a week.

It returned three weeks ago with the same symptoms plus a huge headache but I still do not feel as if it had completely gone. My head feels all over the place and it feels as if my vision cannot keep up with what i am trying to do, my ears are also popping a lot, luckily I am not falling over but I still wake up some mornings and feel unable to drive.

I was wondering if others experienced this and if it is likely to stay like this for very long? Also if you were diagnosed with menieres did you end up losing your driving licence? It seems to be one of my biggest worries!

It does sound like you have classic Menieres. You in the beginning stages of  the disease, it usually starts like this. Having said that it might turn out to be something else. Do you have Tinnitus in one or both ears? I'm not a car driver but I'm guessing that you would have to give your license up. This is all speculation so it's best not to worry too much until you get an official diagnosis xx

Thank you for your reply. One ear completely blocked and then I had a faint wooshing noise for a couple of days, not sure if that is tinnitus as it wasn't a ringing noise. Trying not to worry about it too much yet but hard not too when I'm feeling so odd all the time. Hopefully it's just labyrinthitus reoccurring x

It seems more likely to be Menieres from all your other symptoms, tinnitus doesn't have to be a ringing sound, everyone's different. The noises are mostly my left ear where I'm deaf, it's like a waterfall sound, I have it all the time! There are also other conditions that can cause the same symptoms, one of which I have. So you know once you have your scan☺️

I had a CT scan when it first happened as it was quite bad. I was on holiday and went to the hospital. The results were clear which is reassuring but they did say it might be worth having an MRI if it happens again. I hope your diagnostic isn't too bad. Constant tinnitus sounds awful!

An MRI is a good idea, yes the tinnitus is bad but I've had Menieres for many years and you tend to zone out from the noise. In fact I probably would miss it because I'm so used to it now, lol.

Sounds just like how mine started. My hearing ended up totally going away in one ear and I'm left with tinnitus. Diagnosed with Menieres a couple months ago...good times and bad times. I try to watch my sodium and quit all caffeine. I hadn't even given any thought to the drivers license deal...that would be bad however I have to admit that driving can be a trigger for me.
