Menieres & PIP

I was wondering whether anyone has been successful in receiving PIP for Menieres?

There seems to be conflicting information as to whether this condition is seen as a disability (Really). . .

I don't think it is regarded as a disability in UK but believe it is in USA . Too many people know nothing  about it, as a friend said when I told her I had it "but you get tablets don't you."

    Hi Sharon

The government has tightened up so much on funding for disability benefits that it would probably be unlikely that you would get anything but It's worth trying.

Action for Hearing Loss - formerly the RNID - has a very useful web page on applying for PiP. I could send you a link in a private message if you want.

The thing to stress if you get an assessment is not how MD makes you feel, but how it affects how you live. It won't matter to them that having vertigo might make you feel like you want to die, what matters is does it stop you from doing things without  equipment to help you or human assistance?

For example, if you can no longer go out alone for fear of an attack and need to be accompanied everywhere. Do you need help in the home or to do your job? These are the sort of things you need to stress. It might be an idea to keep a log of attacks and what help you have needed to live a normal life.

    Good luck with it all

      Hello mistibluey

Just to keep you updated, I am waiting for my tribunal appt, having gone through the Mandatory Reconsideration, and unfortunately I was unsuccessful in over turning their decision. It has been so stressful, completing the forms, waiting for the outcome, then not getting the decision I had hoped for. I am trying to keep positive. Positive Affirmations.

Hi sharon...I to have applied for pip, like you received letter giving me 0 points. Even though my husband and myself informed the assessor I can not go out alone, can't cross road due to balance problems and loss of hearing and direction of sound. I'm in the process of the MR at moment, , but I am going to fight for it like yourself. Pls let me know how you get on and stay strong

      Hello baggiebird

I'm still waiting for my tribunal appt, I didn't realise it took this long. However, now I have another concern, I may be losing my job soon, due to high levels of sickness.

Don't know if you are aware that meniere's is listed in the uk disability

Equality Act 2010 don't know if that will help you. All the best I do hope you get everything sorted soon. I lost my job 9 yrs ago due to illness, so understand how u feeling.

Yes, I'm aware of the Equality Act 2010; so does my employers, but feel this will make no difference. Have u managed to work since?

No...I lost my job due to having a breakdown caused by ongoing family problems. Meniere's diagnosed after I lost job...just recd assessor's report of my face to face for PIP. Can't believe all the lies on it, she advised that it's due to tinnitus that I miss hear etc. She saw me walk..NO...I never asked her to repeat herself...NO...I'm on a low dosage of antidepressants, when in fact I'm on the maximum dosage..sorry to go on but I'm so angry, why don't they let us be assessed by someone who knows about meniere's!!!!!! No mention that I can't go out unaided due to falling...unbelievable. Pls keep me informed of your situation.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this, I'm in agreement regarding 'assessors', they should have professionals who know about Menieres, it makes commonsense, I'm so fed up & frustrated, I will let you know -

      Don't give up!!!
