Meninere's Disease

I've recently discovered that I have Meninere's Disease. The symptoms hit me hard, extreme dizziness, horrible vomiting among many other symptoms. What kind of treatment have others been given that has helped?

Everyone is different when it comes to MD. Some can control it with diet. ( No salt, caffeine, chocolate etc). Some a diuretic gets rid of the fluid build up associated with the desease. Others, such as myself, have to step it up. Some inner tympanic steroid injections. I did gentamicin injections. Then there's tubes, grommets, all kinds of stuff.

    Good morning Kara,

I was diagnosed with Menieres about 3 years ago.  My episodes have been controlled with medication since then.  That is until about a month ago.  I had an attack that lasted 45 minutes (spinning).   My neuroligist upped my meds by 50%.  No problems since.  I think that Menieres can be controlled very effectively with medication and keeping salt levels low.  I am taking acetazolamide 750mg each day. Ask your neurologist about it.  BTW, no side effects.

So far they've put me on a water pill and Lexapro for anxiety. My episodes of nausea and vomiting have lasted as long as two full days. It's been so bad that I have to crawl to the bathroom. I'm afraid to leave my house for fear of another attack. It all started with a ringing and a sound like there were crickets in my ear.  When the vertigo started, it felt like someone was pushing me to the ground from behind. My ENT, who specializes in vertigo, said it's genetic. As it turns out my mother started having attacks at my age. People don't realize how debilitating it can be. So far the new meds have helped, but I'm still very anxious when I leave the house.
