Meniscus injury & loose bone fragments removed by an Arthroscopy surgery + insertion surgery

Posted , 6 users are following.

It's been 12 days now. I'm supposed to get the stitches removed between 12-14 days. So time is almost up. But it's still swollen & hurts so much.

Is this normal?

Can some one please tell me what to expect.

Thank you.

I had an arthroscopy for torn meniscus and other issues which resulted in them finding that my knee was far worse than any MRI had shown up. despite the op being over 2hrs i was not in much pain at all, and despite having a GA i was up and walking an hour or so afterwards. My knee was a bit painful at times in the coming days, but usually only when bending the knee, and this disapperaed after a fortnight, unfortunatly it seems my knee must have just been too damaged as i am now waiting on a TKR.

Yes it's normal.  Just keep taking the aspirin to avoid blood clots and another anti-inflammatory to keep that in check.  You may also be prescribed a narcotic pain reliever to take as directed so you can work it without the pain being unbearable

I am 6 weeks post op and I have never been in so much pain in my life. It hurts as much today as it did the day I injured it and ended up in the emergency room. I thought the surgery would bring some relief. I have been in excruciating pain for 10 weeks with no end in sight. No more narcotic meds are prescribed and over the cpunter drugs don't touch the pain. I had a cortisone shot last week. It made it worse. Ended up back at the emergency room. The surgeon is done with me and said I need to go to pain management. Meanwhile my weight has plummeted to 105 pounds because I'm in so much pain I can't eat. I can't sleep. I can't bear weight on the leg wothout having a pain meltdown. I'm still using crutches. There is no end in sight. My primary sent me for a second opinion and he said 10 percent of patients have problems but he could see no reason that I should be in so much pain! I was active walking running yoga step aerobics. Now I just sit on the couch crying all day. I don't know how much longer I can live like this. My life is over.

For meniscus repair you can expect up to about 6 weeks from beginning to end including thrapy. Some do better and some it makes a little longer and then the extent of the dam age plays a role. As everyone with knee surgery will tell you, we are all different and that precludes "normal" being a factor.

I am 3 weeks post op and had a large meniscual tear with loose bone and cartilidge removed and was told I have very little cartlidge left in my knee and will need a total knee replacement in about 3 years. I have done my excerises daily as instructed by the surgery team and walk all the time. I only took the pain medication for 9 days and only took half since the full dose made my stomach hurt too bad.My ace bandage and gauze was removed at 10 days and I was very still and sore. At 10 days I went outside and started walking very slowly  and I walk daily farther and faster. There is pain but a differnt pain then what I felt before and have not taken any pain meds since they took off the ace and gauze. It hurts and I also am very stiff in the mornings. I am 65 yrs old and I am determined to be well by Christmas. If you are concerned, call your sergons office and ask them as they would be able to best guide you. I still have swelling also and even when I hurt I still do my exercises. Ops I  just caught you posted this 4 months ago. I hope all went well for you. I want to sleep on my stomach again and can't wait. Good luck.
