Meniscus tear

Finally had a result with what my left knee pain and swelling is and now I will have to have an operation to fix it. I have a meniscus tear in a part that has no blood supply so it's not going to healing its own.

Has anyone had one of these? I don't care about the pain and I'm not scared of operations as such but what I'm terrified about is the trauma making the other stuff worse. They say fibro hits after operation but how does an operation when you already have it compare? I'm sensitive these days to meds so although I used to enjoy a general anaesthetic I'm now worried.

Hope everyone's having a good day

I donated a kidney, and have had a hernia repaired and was 'PAIN FREE, on the Morphine'  Was absolute Bliss!!  I was still stiff, but then I have existing injuries after a MVA years ago.

But I have told my docs and specialists that the two times surgery and the morph put me out completely free of pain, plus 2 x's when I tried a puff of whacky Backy it put me also out of pain.    BUT one cannot live on Morphine long term as it has that accummulative affect, also other issues with it, and so deemed to dangerous.  As for the Whacky Backy, well..  I don't wish to be laughing all day and night and I care for my lungs so I won't go there.  I would definitely eat it, IF it was legal to have it, because it 'works'....  Tramadol, Gabapentin, and the Triptyline how ever they are spelt and it's broader family all don't work.  Ibuprophen helps with my migrains..  and that's it.

I get so run down due to the pain, and the meds.

Anyway you wanted to know about recovery etc after surgery..   FINE, no issues.  :-)    All the best going forward with your surgery.  I'm sure you'l recover well and you'l wonder later what on earth was I worried about!.... hahaha  Bless ya, hugs x

Thanks Deb, glad to hear that your operations went well. Its a shame that you found something that helps you but they cant put you on it full time. I know in the states they hand out morphine type drugs often. There really is a lack of drugs that really do block pain well

Hi charlotte...  yes I agree with you about the handing out of drugs, quite easily, regularly, and with not much thought I guess about the very long term  consequences.  However a large population of test dummies for the pharmacuetical companies aye!.....   One doctor here in NZ told our Insurance company that my only other recourse was actual Morphine, and went on to say that it is to risky (as a long term pain killer)..  Which I thoroughly understand.  I don't have great lung capacity, being an asthmatic since birth.  So one can imagine the Morph long term would have a huge impact on my heart and lungs over time, expecially given that the body begins to obsorbs the levels and then later needs more.  NO WAY would I ever wish or want to be drug dependant full time 24/7.

The only thing I would venture to use as a pain killer and sleeping aid in the evenings, and only when desperate would be the 'Natural Green Weed'...

(Seems wierd to say Weed, when it is actually quite a lovely bush or tree)

Hi Deb, what are the laws in NZ on marajuna? Do they have the medical kind?

I wouldnt want to be on opiates long term either. All drugs come with there own risk especially the addictive ones. Ive tried various anticonvulsants and hate them with a passion. They dont take away the pain but leave me feeling like im really not myself and that ive got some additonal problems.

It was very brave of you to donate a kidney especially when your health isnt great anyway.

Hi Charlotte I too have meniscus tears and deal with swelling, pain, etc. and will not have surgery for the same concerns you have.  Seems as though with fms, we all react to most anything. I have a vitamix that has helped me incorporate anti inflammatory foods into my diet that has been somewhat helpful.  I think any halfway decent blender would do.  Don't know if this will help but here is my daily drink AND it's not fattening cause god knows, I surely don't need anymore of that !!....cucumber, celery, apple, carrots, 2 haldfulls of spinach or kale, a 1-2" pc of fresh ginger, tumeric (I don't use fresh, as I can't find it anywhere), the juice of 1 lemon and half a lime and a couple handfuls of ice - blend it up and it's quite tasty biggrin  Even if you do not want to blend/juice, just try incorporating lots of anti infammatory veggies....hope this helps a bit !  Gentle Hugs...
