Had a arthoscopy for meniscus tear 3 weeks ago, so painful before couldnt straighten knee. And now after cant straighten knee! Starting rehab this week, hopefully they will get it straight, bit worried though have some exercises to do but doesnt seem to make difference. I was also told that one side of knee no cartilage hoping I wont suffer pain from that, any advise people? Spent 8 months in so much pain couldnt walk, swim anything, so desperate to get my life back.

So sorry to hear you're struggling, you're in the right place here to feel a little comfort that people know how you feel, it's utterly miserable being suddenly immobile and not knowing what to do to help. I had a large chunk of medial meniscus taken out my right knee and had some complications post-surgery (bleeding into the joint initially, then internal scarring which meant my leg wouldn't bend at all and then I needed 2 separate MUAs - manipulation under anaesthetic where they give you a general/spinal block and force your leg to bend & straighten to break the scar tissue - gross!) My knee wouldn't fully straighten either, but I think (think!) that's normal, hopefully the physio can give you the right exercises. My surgeon kept telling me to lie on the bed front down, knee just over edge & let gravity push leg down & hopefully help straighten it. But your physio may have different/better ideas and it will obviously depend on how difficult you find to straighten it, how sore it is & how bent it is to start with. I hope it starts to resolve soon for you. One thing I have learnt is that knees take WAY LONGER to get better than any of the docs ever say!!!! Wish they'd give longer time frames to us so we feel more normal when weeks have gone by and not much has changed. It would help (a little!) to stop us all going so crazy! x

      Hi Sally,

Thank you sooo much for reply, information helped.. will defo try that over the bed thingy tonight. You sound like you had a bad time.. oh the joys of knee surgery. 3 weeks yesterday, so still kinda early days, but will give exercises a go, and see what the physio comes up with.

      Take care of yourself

      Thanks again.

      Vanessa
