What is your experience with steroid injections, please? Do they help/make it worse/do nothing at all?

Hi Rosemary,
Ive been dealing with knee pain for over a year. Ive been very limited with any kind of physical movement. I've had a few cortisone shots which didn't help and also one gel injection. That gave me relief small relief for about 2 months I've also had quite a lot of physical therapy, which only made my knee worse. My surgeon finally ordered an MRI last week which shows multiple meniscus tears and ACL problem. Went in for follow-up and see what we could do. He doesn't think I should have any surgery or
even a scope. He doesn't think it will be any help and advised me to learn to live with it. I have pain while walking short distances, getting in and out of chairs, cant climb stairs. I need a cane or a walker all the time. it really is frustrating. I went ahead and scheduled a knee scope against his recommendation, but now Im very anxious about doing something he says I shouldn't do.
He's one of the best orthopedic surgeons in our area and comes very highly recommended. Sorry about this long story but wanted to share. I'm hoping you have a better outcome for your problem. The only advise I would give is be persistant. Keep complaining about the problem until someone recognizes it. Knee pain and all the limitations it brings is terrible.
