i am 58 and have not had periods for at least 7 years.
i have noticed lately that having sex is quite painful and i feel very dry
has anyone else experienced this? and what did you do to rectify problem.
i keep thinking that maybe i have some type of cancer but i have always been regularly screened. am i just being paranoid?

hello i too am 58 and been in menopause for 6 years.
i fine sex really discomforting and can be a bit painful. This is because our loss of oestrogen thins the vagina and dries it out.
i use a lubricant gel, the nurse gave me when i went for my last smear test. you can buy some at the chemist.
i know how you feel its not nice but stop worrying its cancer, its something a lot of us suffer with.

I don't have that because I'm taking HRT but that is very normal. If you prefer not to take HRT, I believe there is just an estrogen cream which helps many people. You're not being paranoid and do not have cancer! It's very, very normal. Lubrication gels can help but estrogen cream is I believe very safe and effective.

Do see your doctor and ask for some local estrogen, it only gets worse if left untreated. Local estrogen is perfectly safe and works well if you give it long enough!
