You take the probiotics with the antibiotics. Please know that recurrent UTI's are related to menopause, so I suggest that you go to the UTI forum for the best practical advice.
As for speaking with your doctor before you do it, most doctors know nothing about nutrition or probiotics. You'd have to have a very good one if they did. In fact, some might tell you it's absolutely not necessary to take probiotics. If you have one of those--well, don't listen to them! xx

Well it has to do with lack of consistent estrogen. The tissues become dry and don't hold together well. They get irritated. You get vaginitis, which can lead to UTI's, too. Best of luck to you!

Hi Meno, there are 2 types of UTI's bacteria; Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. These two are gram-negative.
Medical Journal JAC writes:
Resistance in Gram-negative bacteria has been increasing, particularly over the last 17 years. E. coli is one of the commonest organisms causing urinary tract infections (UTIs) the choice of agents to treat these infections is diminishing. Novel combinations of antibiotics are being used in the community and broad-spectrum agents such as carbapenems are being used increasingly as empirical treatment for severe infections.
With this said, there are 3 types of UTI's that affect different areas of the urinary tract. The urethra, the bladder or the kidney's.
I was given the strongest antibiotics out there, they didn't do anything for me. In fact, my colonies were increasing rather than decreasing. When they saw that nothing was working they asked me what did I think I should take, I ended up asking for an antibiotic that I thought would work for me, 4 x 7 at 500mg. This pill I took was exactly what I needed to cure my UTI, which had lasted about 4 weeks. The alternative was that if the antibiotic I requested didn't work I would have ended up in dialysis to have my blood cleaned out. I thank God I didn't have to go threw that. To date this was my most dreadful and horrible medical nightmare experience. Nowadays, I drink a minimum of 2 -24 oz of water during the day and about 16 oz at night, seems to be perfect for me, although some days I drink more. I also take vitamin D3 4000IU's, and vtiamin C. Once you get rid of this UTI, start drinking vitamin C and don't forget to take your VD3. Hope you get well soon.
