Mental health crisis please help!

Hi, I've been signed off work with severe depression on Tuesday. Tomorrow I have to go to a mental health hospital for an urgent psychiatric assessment. Very nervous they will just section me there and then. Any advice would be massively appreciated. Right now I just feel like I'm a total failure and I've royally messed up 😢

I still have to go the hospital every 3months, I was in a real bad way when I went on Tuesday ..total mess .. I was given new meds that was it. I really don't think you need to worry at all about being kept in. Youl be assessed that's all .. good luck with your appointment. . Xx

    Hi Fliss,

I've had a couple of urgent psychiatric assessments (via the local A&E) in recent years and my fear was also about being sectioned and needing to be submitted to a psychiatric ward. My understanding is that this is a very last resort (if you pose an immediate threat to yourself or others). The assessment is going to help move forward in the treatment that you need so try to be as honest as possible. Nothing you say will shock or surprise the assessor and everything is confidential,

Most importantly, you are NOT a failure - you are very poorly and you mustn't blame yourself. Do you think it's someone's own fault if they have cancer or measles? You need to take this time in your life to pause and regather your strength and energy (emotional, physical & mental). Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. This is not happening to you because you are weak. Actually depression is often reffered to as "the curse of the strong". Many people struggle with the symptoms of depression but seeking help is the best thing you can do. Wishing you luck and hoping everything goes well for you. let us know how you get on. You'll always find friendship & support on this forum :-)

    Digsby x

I too have severe depression. It was really scary until I got help. The out patient clinic was at the psychiatric hospital. I had an hour long assessment and came away with a prescription. I felt a lot better and quite safe a few hours after my first pill. My mood has been stable and good since (5 weeks) I also have Talking Therapy.

I hope you have been greatly comforted and encouraged by the replies you have already received. I wish you the very best.

Thank you for all of your positive comments, I haven't been sectioned although it was offered to me I was allowed home as I had mental capacity. They have referred me to the complex care team and now I am waiting to see a psychiatrist. I genuinely didn't realise how long the whole process was!
