Meralgia Paresthetica still 2 years 7 months after thr

I haven't posted here for a while but was wondering if anyone has been left with Meralgia Paresthetica after a thr. I have been struggling with groin pain up over the top of my thigh into my hip. It feels like stabbing, burning pains in nearly every movement I do. I have poor mobility and poor sleep. I have been doing strengthening exercises regularly for the 2 years now and strengthening my core muscles. My consultant has said there is no more he can do for me. I've had all the usual steriod injections, 3 ultra sound guided injections into different areas. Numerous physio's, chiropractic treatment and accupuncture. I use a tens machine, laser machine and massages. I also make sure I have rest days so not to over use the area.

I am at a loss what to do next. I have been advised to research for surgeons who specialize in this condition but am concerned, as my consultant said it's too dangerous to operate on stretched/trapped nerves as it could make me worse.

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has or had this condition. I live in Scotland

thank you.

Hi Heather... Well were to start... I have had three THR surgeries. each one was different. However the last revision took a huge toll on my health. As it turns out in my case causing numbness , pain etc was caused by the cerclage cable system applied to the leg after the surgeon fractured the greater trochanter in a error. In order to remove the primary component from the femur they surgically cut away three sections of the femur bone to remove the primary component to replace it with a new larger femur component.

Cerclage is a cable system used wrapped thru clips around the femur to hold the bone cut in place .

See examples on web sites. The cerclage cables have frayed and twisted in surrounding tissue causing several more complications , numbness and pain .

I am at the end of ever having another Hip Surgery... no more .. I am very sorry that the numbness and pain is a part of your life too.

Hi Barbara. Wow that sounds horrific. I feel for you. No wonder you are done with surgery. I will have a look at the Cerclage on web sites. There's so much information we don't get told about this operation.

I know I can't be the only person that has Meralgia Paresthetica since having a hip replacement. I feel so down as I have less mobility and more pain than before the operation. My husband had to take early retirement as we look after our grandchildren and I cannot do lots of activities and care required which is an awful position to be in, we waited long enough to be grandparents.

I feel let down as I couldn't get a nerve conduction test, nerve ablation radio frequency or surgical decompression to release the trapped nerve. (if that is even what I have).

I would be grateful if anyone has any advice as to how I can get some pain relief/sleep from this condition

      take care all you hippies

your surgeon if i may be honest nicked/pitched the nerve while either removing the bone joint or placing the new components in the joint area. it happens more than you think. its called drop foot. if done correctly it should never happen.

and of course the surgeon won't admit any error. they never do they are told never to own up to a surgical error, by the way the component manufacturer will cover his expenses as well as some reps from the manufacturer will be at you surgery in the OP room and guide the surgeon on procedures to place component. there are very complicated pre OP procedures done ahead of surgery using xrays to order for components to fit also angles needed for removal on bone its all on internet.

i see this all the time the idiot doesn't even offer you a repair right away they know ... and the longer the wait the bone heels tightens around the components and revision is twice as complicated . that is why there are revision specialists thats all they do is repair THR surgeries that were not correct. that idiot also just leaves you dangling trying to pull your life together. it took a huge chunk of your life away, forced life style changes we never thought we would have to face. its time to educate fight and get angry. he knew from 6 weeks what he did and he should never operate on anyone again. we think that these surgeons are approved by extensive protocols . they are not . they only receive a certificatre for a practice mock surgery on a computer or mock patient. otho docs are all not skilled surgeons. ortho docs set bones and treat joints. not all are qualified to replace joints. hip, knees or shoulders. when in reality each patient they perform joint replacement on is a practice surgery...which also includes the whole team in the OR . get a copy of your op report, it belongs to you , also ask for copies of all notes and put a timeline together since the surgery til now. the answer is in the Op report. and copy of component manufacturer and number. all components have a tag and ID numbers. look the part up on line there is info on the parts too.

after all this THR surgery was supposed to eliminate the disabling pain, improve our mobility and improve our life style . and ... THR was botched and did the exact opposite from what the expectations were .

some surgeons have not enough experience only do a few each year.. mismatched components, pseudo tumors ,metal toxicity and so much more. Now the hip area is prone to more complications . look up complications.

become your own advocate. understand there are so many answers to drp foot to help you understand hoe to move forward. that surgeon owes you that much, and do not allow him to do any other surgeries. that surgeon is a hot mess a mass of lies and disillusionment. he has robbed you and your husband future. these over confident surgeons are a danger to their patients . and we have no way to have justice for the injury he caused you.

there are many associations for you to write and at least find out if hospitals he worked at had other complaints. the board of ortho surgeons ...and many more.

plz watch thr surgery on u tube and the various approached posterior side back. also drop foot caused after thr surgery. you will get all the answers you need to get your answer.

THR surgery is Big business and Big money. and we are caught in the middle.

be your own advocate all the information you need is on line. fight for yourself .

      Become your own advocate.

sorry so long but this isnt the half of it...
