Hi. I insisted on a Shouldice tissue repair after my mesh was removed.

Hi Dan where did you get the Shouldice method done, was yours an inguinal hernia?

thank you for that information I will find out it he takes my insurance - how long ago was that and how are you feeling now? Prior to the first operation how big was the bump? Mine is small but noticeable and they say it's only a matter of time until it gets bigger.
Was it painful? I read that they actually use steel thread to sew it up.
Feel free to PM me or comment here.

Mine was small also. I regret getting the surgery. Since then, I found that if the hernia is small and not painful then the best thing to do is keep an eye on it. I have been struggling since the first surgery. There are a lot of nerves that go through your groin and if any of them are disturbed you will end up like me. Sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something!

So sorry to hear that Dan, I read somewhere that in the old days they used to recommend "watchful waiting" and then they decided it's better to fix it before it gets bigger and the hernia is harder to treat. Of course after mesh came in it became a quick and very easy and profitable procedure so naturally they push to do the operation sooner.

hi can you tell me in more detail what you had the mesh replaced with. MY son had a stomach hernia on the 10th December and mesh put in place but in spite of antibiotics it continues to weep and I reckon its because of the mesh. Any ideas would be welcome as he needs to get back to work.

HI. I had the mesh removed and they did a tissue repair. The incision got infected and it oozed for about a week after I finished antibiotics because an internal suture was sticking out of the glue that the surgeon sealed me with. It did not stop oozing until that suture was cut.

I spoke to a doc who advertises on internet for non mesh repairs, he has done hundreds but it's not covered by insurance. I did not have mesh but he was explaining how bad mesh was and how many people he fixes. Some docs say the problems with mesh have been solved by different techniques and different mesh so you should look into it and decide, I hope you get better and do something soon
