Metamucil

I started taking Metamucil in the morning to get more fiber and also help with cholesterol, however I thought this made you go to the bathroom? ?? I have pains in my abdomen and it is hard  to go to the bathroom. I have had two bouts of diverticulitis in the past two years, I know this isn’t another attack, but just from Metamucil?? Should I stop taking it??

Are you taking a lot of water with it on top of normal?  It needs lots of fluid as it makes you absorb more water into your stool to soften it.  Also it takes a couple of weeks to be fully effective.  But if it doesn't suit you, others have posted alternative solutions.

I have 6 - 8 half pint mugs of tea a day, plus 2 large glasses of water morning and night.  Yes I wee a lot!!!!!  But Miralax is a popular alternative.

I found that I have the same problem with Metamucil so I take Miralax every other day and it works well. Sometimes I take it every day when I seem to not have moved my bowels enough.

Being constipated is not good for Diverticulitis.  Good luck.
