Metholtrexate and upper respiratory infection

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have been taking Metholtrexate weekly along with 7.5 mg prednisone for my PMR. I have an upper respiratory infection and have been on antibiotics for 5 days. Is it ok to take my Metholtrexate dose on Monday?

I think a pharmacist would be the best person to ask.  Hope youare feeling better soon.

I was on MTX for 2 years and while in the throes of a very nasty chest infection was advised to miss a week to give the AB's time to work.

Things change very quickly though and I agree with Anhaga that your pharmacist is the first in line to be consulted.

My Doctor prescribed antibiotics for an infection but did not tell me to suspend taking my methotrexate. I reread my methotrexate leaflet supplied by my rheumatologist and it suggested witholding methotrexate while taking antibiotics. I then consulted my pharmacist. He told me to consult my Doctor who then advised me to stop taking methotrexate until I had finished my course of antibiotics.

All our circumstances vary so I guess it's surely best to clarify things with your Doctor?
