May be a silly question but is it ok to get a tattoo while on the meds methotrexate, iv been on 15mg per week orally for 5weeks and my psoriasis has calmed down a bit. Iv always wanted a specific tattoo in specific place which has always been psoriasis free any feedback be usefulI read the skin is sedative while on the meds

Personally I really wouldn't. The mtx suppresses your immune system and it would put you at a higher risk of infection which - however good your tatoo artist is - is always there.

It really is something to discuss with your doctors, not on a forum.

It's what forums are for lol. But apart from that at the end thanks

I would definitely recommend a no! Why? I have read enough accounts of people on a national psoriasis website who have regretted their decision when either psoriasis has formed around or on the tattoo and others who have then experienced a Koebner effect where the body considers it trauma  and responds by breaking out in psoriasis on other parts of the body as well where previously there was none. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear but I would hate for you to experience this too. It maybe that it would not affect you but you need to weigh up the possibilities.

Hi look at your situation I have psoriasis badly on injections. If you get a tattoo and your psoriasis is infected ( ie ) blood posion you will be in a right MESS. THINK please, it is your choice..

Hi Suppa, it's plop isn't it? I want one too but have been told no. It's not worth the infection risk. I'm looking into Henna tattoos. May be one way forward. This is a great question for the forum I think because it's something people may not think about before getting it done 😊

Thanks, Iv had psoriasis for 28 ish years and got tattoos no probs in clear places , was more concerned because of the methotrexate which I'm new to (5 was) obviously I will be speaking to my rheumatologist before making a decision. Just was testing the water lol don't look to good

It is the methotrexate that makes the difference. Of course talk it over with your Rheumy but also weigh up the risks. Septicaemia vs new tattoo? I decided it just wasn't worth the risk. 😊😊

    Hi Supppa

I am worried if you go for one tattoo you may go for more. Psoriasis will attack the week part of the body. please think deeply certainly if you are young.

Iv had 8 tattoos in the last 3 years my concern is the current meds I'm on. Not really the psoriasis side ( I healed fine each time no probs ) it's more about the methotrexate Iv started recently for my psoriatic arthritis

I've been on mtx for 5 years and during that time had bith ny tats re colloured i have psa and it bever affected me, upper arms are tats and psoriasis gets there ok. Just make sure you research thoroughly where you go. . It's sll about potential infection and yes talk it through with rheumatology. The tat place if any good will ask you to fill in medical form and you take the risk. Get advice, check out tat place. ..besides its hard enough living with it and all the drugs so a little bit of sensible fun is ok as long as you research and awae of the risks.

      Just my personal opinion.

I have a question for you snowycat. I read that you have been on methotraxte for 5 years....do the symptoms get any better? Do you take yours at night? The first 2 days are bad and after that I feel wonderful. I have alittle pain in my fingers and toes but my spine and kneck are great. I have been on it for almost 2 months now. The color of my psoriasis is a pale pink with no scales. My scalp almost feels like I'm normal. Any advise on the symptoms would be great?
