Methotrexate injections

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi all,

I got diagnosed with RA in October last year and started on 15mg tablets weekly of methotrexate. I have had my first injection today as the tablets were making me too sick. Since the injection (in my stomach) i have had what feels like a muscle spasm on and off since. Has anyone else experienced this?!

Grateful for any replies x

I inject my thighs alternating weeks and apart from pain for a very short time after injection and sometimes very dry skin at the injection site no real problems.Good luck

Bruises at every injection site that last for weeks sometimes...only side effect.

Are you using the very fine diabetic needles? They are less invasive.

I used to inject in my thigh. And with the fine needles there were no bruises, no side effects at all.

Not sure I've heard of injecting into the stomach but maybe it doesn't matter where you inject as long as it's into fatty tissue.

I have never heard of spasms.

Yes it was the fine needle. I had 2 nurses come round and show me how to do it and they said stomach or thigh but that as i was unsure was best to do stomach whilst they supervised. But i will defo try the thigh next week! Thanks x

Are you using the easy metoject pen injections? I couldn't do the old fashioned type of hyperdermic needle.

      But find these so easy.

Hi Sarah, hope you manage better with thigh. To be honest when I had my appointment with nurse to be shown how to do the injections I told her that due to my large bust I could not see my stomach properly so I would do the thighs and she understood perfectly😂
