I stop taking methotrexate and prednisone without doctors order, because It was making me nauseated and giving me Brian fog headaches and rapped heart rate and shortness of breath. How long will I keep feeling like this? Can anyone help?

Hi, I'm the lucky one. MTX doesnt affect me like it does for so many others. Consultants dont always get it right first time. I was started on Sulphzaladine (wrong spelling) and within a few days or a week or so,I was admitted to hospital and was kept in an isolation unit for 10 days. If MTX is making you ill, then perhaps using the needle might help. What ever the reason for your side effects, I would call your consultant. Doesnt sound right to me.

How much of a dose were you on? I dont think the metho causes the rapid heart rate, prednisone will though. Im pretty sure the shortness of breath is from the heart rate, but I'm curious how long you took it before you stopped cold turkey? Hope they can find something to help you!

    Hi,

I have been taking Mtx for years and while it has some side effects yours do not sound typical. I would suspect that it is your steriods that are effecting your heart rate  and breathing and you are probably right to stop taking them. However Mtx takes time to work and stopping it will delay that further so I would have thought you should keep up with that. But what you really need is to see your doctor much sooner than April
