I am also on Metotrexate i have been on it about 9 weeks at 7.5mg had a reveiw on Friday no change to inflamation markers so they have decided to increase dosage upto 15mg over the next couple of weeks. with a reveiw in 8 weeks to see if there is any change. I am also being booked into hospital for a weeks maybe two weeks intensive physio. If these dont work they are suggesting self injection pens at a cost of £10,000 a year. But only if the methotrexate does not work, I am not sure what the injection is but you can only have it if they have tried both Sulfasalazine and Methotrexate, they have to apply for funding but as long as the other two have been tried and they failed to control the condition the funding is never refused. Only time will tell, Sadly because there are so many different drugs to control this condition and they all take months to work trying to find the right combination for each individual can be a long path. Speak to your Specialist on the other options of drugs and Phyiso that is out there for you.

Hi, sorry to hear about the problem coming off the steroids, it's difficult but can be done i got stuck on 3 mg for awhile but then i thought i have to do it and i did it! I've been off them for about 6 months. When i first starting comng off them i felt like death, as they tend to make you feel well again, but they are nasty and dangerous to your health! Mthx is not a painkiller so you will need to take something else for the pain. I'm waiting to start a new biologic this week, they are very expensive but fingers crossed will work, i will still take the Mthx tho. Good luck

    Hi,

The Mtx path has been long and a little confusing for me, but with a good outcome - I hope you don't mind my sharing my experience:

I started Mtx (12.5mg) in March, 2015. It took 3 months to build up tolerance (being able to take it without flu-like and gastric symptoms) - no improvement in symptoms and unable to lower dose of prednisone during that time. In 3rd month dosage mtx raised to 15 mg with only gastric reactions. After 3 weeks (first week of July) daily "blow-out" of symptoms disappeared and less achey over-all. Able to tolerate reducing prednisone by one mg 3 days after taking mtx.

    Hope this helps!
