methotrexate toxicity fatality

Dear Methotrexate Gang,
Hi - I'm writing this post because my father has passed away from methotrexate toxicity in February. This cause of death has been officially confirmed. I'm in a state of shock and I really don't believe that the general public understand the severity or danger of this drug.
As I've read here many MTX patients have been on this drug for months if not years. My Dad was on this drug for only five days.
Here is some advice for everyone on this drug:
> Please everyone always ask for a consumer information pamphlet and be aware of the side effects.
> Even if you feel fine don't ignore any side effects
> Hospitals don't check for MTX levels in the blood - if you find yourself in Hospital ask them to test the levels.
> Be aware of leucovorin therapy ; known as 'rescue therapy' (this is administered if you have suspected MXT poisoning)
> Always follow the directions from a rhumatoid arthritist specialist or dermatologist or oncologist - not a general practitioner

Wow!! I am absolutely gob smacked after reading your story! What an awful thing to happen, my heart goes out to you!!
My dermatologist has just suggested I stop the prednisolone & start on methotrexate this Friday! (3days time)
I thought I'd do some research online & so glad I did. Reading all the messages have certainly opened my eyes and I shall definitely NOT be going any where near it!!!
Thankyou so much for sharing your very sad story with us all xxx

Thank you for your kind words and yes it is just horrific what happened. I mean losing someone special is hard enough without complications of drugs like methotrexate.
I would definately look for alternatives for this drug!

Has anyone tried to legally look into this dangerous and toxic drug methotrexate? If so, what has been your experience?
Our love and best wishes to all who have been through this awful situation.

Hi Kristy, Im sorry for your loss. What were your father's symptoms? Ive been nervous while on this drug (for Lupus) and my rheumatologist keeps reassuring me that its the right course of treatment for me. I still get some Lupus symptoms and my doctor even wants to increase my dosage which I refused to do. So Im curious what exactly happened with your father???

Dear Sunny25366,
Can I ask you what the dosage you're currently taking?
My Dad had 2.5mg x 2 per day resulting in 5mg in total.
I would be careful of increasing the dosage!
He had the following symptoms:
*mouth ulcers
*temperture
*flu like symptoms
*tiredness
Let us all know what happened with regards to your dosage and what the doctor says?

My father also died because of Methotrexate on 01/06/2019.
Trial and error! Despite me telling the specialists no no, but I was reassured.
It's a deadly drug!
Age 78, severe RA/Osteoarthritis disease, heart patient. My dad also suffered from acute kidney failure and discitis from which he recovered. He also ended up with temporal arteritis and suddenly lost his complete vision in his left eye one Sunday afternoon.
Alergic to oral anti-inflamatory medications.
Methotrexate was stopped for a reason. After some years the specialists decided to trial this out again by placing my dad on a very low dose to be taken once a week.
2 weeks, 2 doses taken and he ended up with fever, infection, herpes mouth ulcers and was hospitalised.
He was on strong antibiotics whilst in hospital via a drip. His breathing was getting worser, he was shifted to the infection ward. He eventually wasn't allowed to walk and was forced to his bed as they changed his mattress. He was becoming lost and confused and wouldn't make any sense at all.
Finally the oxygen mask was recommended.
Prior to the above when dad was admitted, shifted around and ended up in the infection ward a doctor spoke to me about if things were to get worse.
The doctor said if things are to get worse would your father prefer to be revived or not. During this time my dad was talking normal, walking and was simply fedup of his mouth ulcers. I asked the doctor what exactly are you trying to say and to be clear. The response I received was this "we ask every elderly patient this question, nothing to worry about".
Nothing was signed, it was a verbal agreement as the doctor persuaded my dad to avoid being revived if worse was to happen.
It didn't make any sense, days went by and my dad was getting worser. It almost felt like he was being made to become worser. From walking, talking and happily being admitted in hospital to pneumonia and dieing!
Every single time I mentioned Methotrexate I wouldn't get a clear response back. It was being avoided, we were being distracted.
After dad passed away I attended a meeting with the specialists at the hospital who wouldn't take on any sort of blame. They kept referring me to the RA specialists who decided to put dad back on Methotrexate.
I spoke with one other RA specialist back at the RA department at the other hospital where my dad was under the care of for his RA treatments. It was a coincidence that the main specialist who prescribed the drug, who had made the initial decision wasn't available to see me. He didn't feel the need to I guess.
Once again I was being distracted, made to look at other figures and medical reports until finally it was agreed that Methotrexate was also the cause of death. It wasn't "also" it clearly 101% was the cause of his death.
A battle I'll never win.
When I visited a medium and tarot card person they told me it was due to negligence with the care of my dad and it certainly was Methotrexate that killed him. My dad's spirit also said the same.
