Metoprolol. Tapering off. Side effects. Horrible drug!

Metoprolol has been the worst medication I've ever been on. After a year of not knowing what was making me sick we found out it's this poison. I have never suffered so much and now after so much I found out it was this medication which I was given for hypertension. I've always ran but high and I believe I in fact have white coast hypertension I have MS so it's hard to know what's wha. Unclearly this drug ruined my life. I was 5"8 145lbs after losing a lot of weight from the pesky steroids I was given initially for MS then this drug in one year (despite healthy eating) packed on 30lbs and gave me a list of horrific side effects to include swelling chest pressure burning in arms sleep disturbances extreme dizziness depression I never thought possible. I'm slowly tapering off as no one warns you how risky stopping this drug is. Into week 2 of taper and it's hard

I have a tough time with MS but was never this sick

Also doctors hand this crap out like nothing despite FDA warnings. Anyone else go through this? I can't wait to be rid of this poison in me. My anxiety is off the charts

I can't believe I agreed to take this Med. I trusted my doctor. Never again. Have been to ER very sick 3 times. Even ER doc said it's not a good Med to treat HTN of any kind

Thank you for your time

I have actually been pretty bad myself. I'm still reading about side effects and trying to understand what happened to me.I started the Metoprolol at the beginning of February. 50 mg .2 month later my pulse started to drop to 50 and I was nearly losing my conscience. One time the ambulance took me as I was not responding. From the A&E they said to take only half of dose of Metoprolol.Ive had another 2 weeks of fainting and feeling like I'm gonna dye soon.Have to mention that my BP was fine before, just slightly elevated diastolic. After 1 month of being so ill and after all kind of tests done(checked everything from head to toe ,everything is normal including heard and brain). So,finally cardiologist said to stop the tablet. That was a month ago, and since then I've been having panic attacks .So,sadly I went to a psychiatrist yesterday and the result is..panic disorder. I was so scared on that Metoprolol that truly ruined my last 3 month. My pulse is back to normal now and BP like it was before the Metoprolol but now I have panic attacks because of that. And it's horrible. So,this is my experience with the nightmare tablet Metoprolol

I was on metoprolol succinate 50mg twice daily for 3 weeks for fib. I felt a bit of lightheadedness at first then like a freight train I got extreme dizziness, horrible insomnia, Balance issues, muscle twitches. I went to urgent care where the doc told.me to just stop taking the Metoprolol cold since it had only been 3 weeks. It's been a little over two weeks and now I have ear pain and a feeling like they need to be popped, still have balance issues, anxiety is off the rails....(been put on buspirone), micro sleeping....prescribed ambien for that and also that like weird head feeling. It's been a nightmare and I've had all kinds of test and blood work done....all came back as nothing wrong. I was a pretty healthy 43 year old male but now life is a mess. Just trying to see how long it will take to get back to normal. 3 weeks doesn't seem like much to get withdrawl symptoms but after CT scans, ENT visits, multiple blood work done...so no obvious infections or cancers....what else is there? Until I read the comment about balance and ear issues I thought I was just going insane.

Wondering if any of your symptoms have gone away. I was put on a another beta-blocker for 12 days and it was Making me very depressed. Doctor said I could stop without side effects. Wrong, anxiety is awful.

There are good and bad days. The insomnia has improved. But the weird head feeling/dizziness is still there when walking. The anxiety has improved with a good amount of prayer and medication. Yeah when I went back he told me he doubted it was the meds that did that. Told me to go to ENT. My dose was small according to him and I was only.on for 3 weeks. But as of now there's no other explanations. Sorry to hear about your anxiety. Did the doctor offer meds or are you just going to try and push through?

on Buspirone now...take another week or so to kick in with significance but lil bit taken off. My anxiety was unreal. I already deal with PTSD but nothing like when I stopped Metoprolol Succinate

Still a bit off. but Anxiety is pretty much gone outside of a still not feeling right. quiet head feeling still around as well as muscle weakness. I have a Hematology appointment coming up. The buspirone helped with the anxiety. How are you doing with it?

Hopefully there's been some progress. I'm still having some weird head feelings and muscle weakness. The next stop is Nuerology. Stayed prayed up. It's definitely better than it was for me 3 months ago

HI, I am doing better. Still having some issues with chest pain and internal shakiness (adrenaline). My anxiety is a lot better. Hopefully with time and God, we will get better. Let me know what your neurologist has to say. Praying for you.
