Hey guys...So I had emergency cardiac surgery due to a large cardiac myxoma ?found in my right chamber in my heart..doctors said blocking about 80% of my blood flow. Post surgery I was put on 25mg of Metoprolol twice a day because I went into aflutter and had a couple tach issues the day after. about 3 weeks ago doc gave clear to wean off ...I was getting some shortness of breath , low bp and some here and there flutters..also had cold hands and feet all the time..not to mention the dreams...Full blown movies...so I weaned off cut dosages etc.. I have been fully off for a week..but I'm still getting some weird symptoms ..cold hands feet, neck and arms too...Still some shortess of breath...and a few flutters...overall I feel much better now that this tumor is out..,able to work out etc..but these weird side effects have not gone away and the doctors told me that I should be good now as far as side effects..anyone still get side effects after a week of being off? thanks so much

Isn't a myxoma about as rare as a purple unicorn?!?!  I'm impressed!

I think it's not too surprising to still have a few effects from the beta blockers a week after stopping, give it another week or so.  But just the cardiac surgery also is a shock to the body, that can take weeks for the body to get over.

Metoprolol shows as having a very short half-life but apparently the effect last longer than the presence of the drug or they'd have you taking it six times a day in the first place.

Maybe taking a replacement beta blocker to help wean you off, and by this what I have in mind is - dark chocolate!  Has natural beta blocker in it, an ounce or two of 70% or darker chocolate, with no milk added, just once a day.  If it weren't fattening the drug companies might sell a lot fewer pills, LOL.

ha yes..very rare..it took them literally years to figure out what was wrong with me.. always feinting..couldn't sleep on my back due to the pressure pushing on the tumor and causing me to black out and short of breath..all ekgs always normal...I finally switched my cardiologist and demanded an echo.his eyes bugged out of his head and said..i think I know what your problem is.....it was huge.....I am so happy to sleep on my back now smile ..now if I could get rid of these side effects

I wasn't on Metoprolol, but the similar beta blocker Bisoprolol, only for a couple of months, I got all the usual beta blocker side effects as soon as I was on them. Been off a little over a year now and the side effects are getting worst. Beta Blockers disrupt your Autonomic Nervous System, I have now got a permanently disrupted Autonomic Nervous System which is far worst than the original problem I was given beta blockers for.

I’ve onky been on beta blockers for short while and very low dose 1.25 biso, but have had heart surgery to repair mitral valve . On no drugs afterwards but did have a few irregular beats etc for a while that surgeon said was normal . It’s takes much longer to get over heart surgery than you are told . If you ever totally get over it. I’m fine after two years until I started getting etctioic beats , the low dose betas have stopped them . I have no side effects that I notice from them. I would give it a bit longer . But if they don’t go check it out as maybe not side effects from them but from surgery . The trouble is with heart issues unless you’ve had then even doctors don’t realise the anxiety it caused
