Metoprolol weaning…

Posted , 1 user is following.

long post ahead, apologies in advance

i started taking metoprolol in 2017, not sure of the exact date. i was 17, nearly 18 at the time. i started off on a half dose of 12mg per day, eventually moving to 25mg per day. I was diagnosed with Sinus Tachycardia at the time, though my cardiologist is now suspicious I may have POTS.

recently, ive become suspicious of my bodies tolerance for medications. I went off my birth control several weeks ago, and that did a lot of good for me. My symptoms on Metoprolol, though i did not initially connect any of this, were as follows:

-heavy weight gain. over the past 3 years, i have gained nearly 100 pounds, despite maintaining the same diet and exercise, or slightly better, as before.

-extreme exhaustion. i find myself so exhausted in the middle of the day, i can hardly keep myself awake.

-ear aches, to the point ive regularly asked my PCP if i had an infection.

-continued issues with tachycardia. my range today, depsite only going on a short walk, was 40bpm-188bpm. i am 21 years old.

-regular sleep disturbance. i typically wake at least once during the night.

i recently visited my cardiologist, and explained that i would like to go off the medication, as it didnt seem to be fulfilling its purpose. surprisingly, he agreed, and i am now weaning.

up to this point, i have had no noticeable issues. I am meant to take 12.5 mg, a half dose, for two weeks, then take 12.5 mg every other day for two weeks, then stop completely.

today i worked for only three and a half hours. by the time i got off, i was exhausted. as the day wore on, i continued to feel more exhausted, and am now having sinus pain, ear ache, and nausea.

can anyone advise me about what to expect?

did anyone who suffered weight gain lose weight after going off? i have tried exercise and diets, but it just hasnt worked on Metoprolol.

thanks!
