metronidazole long term effects

:? I was given metronidazole for a tooth infection 200 x 9 tablets and I collapsed I discovered later that I had been given this medication 9 time for diviticulitus over 10 years this last dose has completely upset me neurologically. 2 years later and I have not recovered, my doctor was very helpful and tests were done - I now have reactive hypoglycemia, not connected with diabetes, I have changed my diet, no sugar, and eat small meals regularly, but I also have tingling along the tops of my arms and on the front of my legs in the mornings and a stiff shoulder all because of this antibiotic. Why are tests not done to find out what part of this antibiotic is causing such serious side effects. I want my life back but how. Taking a tissue salt which helps but not a cure. Help.

Hi guys, this reading is just awful.  What a horrible drug.  My dentist hands this metronidazole out  like sweets!!  I have not yet taken any.  I have used salt water.  He said I had a big infection under 3 capped teeth and to take it.  The salt water got rid of it.  My hubs had a slight toothache and he prescribed this for him also.  He did the same as me and is fine now.

What happens if they prescribe it for you - and is there an alternative?

I know there are loads out there - I am allergic to penicillin so docs don't give me that but what c an the dentist give as an alternative.

Your stories are horrendous and I soo hope you have found relief.

It seems you have an autoimmune disease called Polymyositis which I was diagnosed with. After reading across the internet I insisted that my gallbladder must be removed cause there was stones and was inflamed and thought it was the culprit who triggered the autoimmune disease.By the way the first thing to force me to go to doctor was something like hypoglycemia which was a side affect of Polymyositis. After removing my inflamed gallbladder Both diseases went a way,Thank God.
