I had a mid foot fusion on my right foot 6 weeks ago! My foot was a real mess. I'm 39 and have oateoarthritis really had all over. I had a tkr three years. The arthritis was so bad in the joint in my foot and the cartilage was deteriorating worse than what the doctor originally had thought. i also has 3 cysts in my joint. My only option was a mid foot fusion which scared the life out of me. I had the surgery done 6 weeks ago and im still not weight bearing. i get checked on wednesday to see it i am able to put down any weight or if its going to be longer. ive done everything i was suppose to. Has anyone gone through this? i dont know what to expect. its been nice having the pain gone.

Hi. I had 1st 2nd & 3rd TMT FUSION (midfoot fusion) due to OA on 4th JULY 2018, I WAS IN CAST for 12wks 8wks non weight bearing then 4wks partial weight bearing, I Was then put in aircast boot which i am still using. its taken a lot longer than I expected to get to this point, if I try and wear shoes it soon becomes painfull does'nt seem to be any benefit yet, the surgeon says this is normal and can take over a year to settle down.
I am still waiting for custom orthotics ordered end of october so i can ditch the boot and start using shoes, everything takes so long . i see my consultant on the 20th Feb hopefully he will chase it up.
Hopefully yours wont take as long, as your still young, i'm 60 things take a bit longer to mend now.

Oh my gosh!! I can't imagine being in a cast that long!! I cant imagine how you did it!! On my first two week check up he put me straight in a boot!! No cast at all. He told me as long as i promised to stay off my foot he wouldn't put me in a cast!! I've stayed completely off my foot so we will see what happens at my 6 week check up. I'm so sorry yours has taken so long!!

Hi,
I had mid-foot fusion of first to third tarsometatarsals almost exactly a year ago.
Was in a full cast for about 2 or 3 weeks then a foot cast for another 3 weeks, then an aircast boot for about 4 weeks, the 11th week I only wore the boot to go out, the 12th week I didn't use it at all. This is all from memory, so might be slightly inaccurate.
I wasn't allowed to weight bear at all until I was in the boot, and even then it was only partial for about a week.
Of course this all depends on your X-rays and how well you're healing so everyone will be slightly different
Hope that helps
Liz

Thanks so much!!!! At my two week appointment he put me right into a boot if i promised to stay off of it. So no cast at all! I've stayed completely off of it so we will see what my xrays show this week at my appointment!
So do you have any pain now or are you good to go?? Are you glad you had the surgery? My first 6 weeks have gone so good!
