Middle ear infection in an adult?

Hi All..I was diagnosed with acute otitis media (AOM) which is basically fluid behind the eardrum. Was given a 10 day course of an antibiotic. I have bad headaches, plugged feeling in ears, buzzing in ears (tinnitus) and just generally feeling horrible. The thing is I've read where this ailment in an adult is usually a sign if a more serious problem and an adult is more prone to complications such as meningitis. So I wondered if any members have had this problem as adults and whether antibiotics were prescribed at the time of diagnosis since there seems to be a problem knowing if it's viral or bacterial. My Dr thinks bacterial since I've had symptoms for over 5 days. But now I'm concerned since it could be due to a serious underlying problem causing it. I don't really even know where to go with that since he made no mention of furthur tests or seeing an ENT.

I'm pretty sure getting an ear infection as an adult, means that you got an ear infection. Nothing else to worry about I wouldn't imagine. (Not a doctor or medical advice etc).

I'm sure it'll clear up soon! Let us know how you get on. cheesygrin
