Midfoot fusion

I will be having midfoot fusion due to osteoarthritis in the next couple weeks. My husband is elderly and we are trying to prepare in advance with medical supplies. I am 54, average wt. Can anyone suggest a toilet-seat riser for our normal toilet; should we get one with arm handles? We have ordered a knee scooter, thanks to your advice, what about a bedpan, diapers, or a wheelchair? I am so, so thankful for this forum. I will have a donor bone taken from my ankle as opposed to the synthetic bone.

I had a triple athrodesis and navicular fusion last Thursday. I am using a walker (without putting my foot down) which is working well, as I have a bathroom attached to my bedroom. I have a commode-type toilet with the arm handles, that fits right over my toilet. It is the one with the frame that almost reminds you of a walker itself, with the toilet part fitting right over the bowl. This has been invaluable, and sturdy. I would definitely recommend.
I wish you you the best with your procedure.

Since I am not allowed to give a specific brand of an item, I will try to describe what I bought in detail.
Toilet seat....get one 5 inches high, with handles from a brand store on the internet. It is very easy to install...just put the seat up on the toilet, place the
plastic seat on top and there is a big plastic screw with screws into the front...even I could do it. Theh andles are a must...it only cost me about 30-35 dollars. A bed pan is not necessary but the surgery center gave me one in case...I never used it. A wheel chair would be good but very heavy for your husband to load into the car. A friend loaned us a "transport chair"...pretty light but a must for you to get out of the house! Also, buy a "cast protector (a long heavy plastic bag with a tight top) for the shower. It will cover your entire leg and your bandage won't get wet. This you can get for about $8 on the internet. Also a walker (again on the internet from a name brand store)...after 8 weeks, and you can start to walk a bit, the walker helps take off weight from your foot. I ended up (and am still on) a cane...just from a pharmacy. Good luck and I am glad I can help.
