Midfoot fusion, after three months

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi, first post

I had a midfoot fusion just over three months ago. Six weeks in a cast and six weeks in a boot. Xrays show everything as expected. I started walking this week in my own shoes. The pain i'm experiencing at the moment is twenty times more severe than pre operation. Is this normal? I'm thinking its because I'm now using muscles, tendons and the like that haven't seen any use for three months. Please tell me I'm right?

This sounds familiar- I'm 9 weeks into recovery. I had a pot for 6 weeks, now a boot, with quite vague advice about not doing too much. in the morning the pain in my foot is terrible, makes me feel sick- sharp and if I stretch (I can't help it), the pain is excruciating. So I'm really worried.

Did you have pain in the morning at this point and have you had x-rays?

Sorry I can't be more helpful to you, but I've got loads of questions! I feel quite isolated because everyone around me is expecting me to be back to normal, well better than normal and I think it's going to take a very long time.

How much standing, moving, exercise do you do now? Are you working?

Thanks - I hope you don't mind all of the questions!

      Hi,

I'm now at about 18 weeks and ive seen a massive difference. For the last four weeks ive been walking around 10,000 steps a day. Ive been placing the ankle in an ice compress twice a day which has made a massive difference.

Ive also seen a foot specialist who created two custom shoe insoles which are wonderful to use. I did have pain in the mornings and my ankle was stiff. Ive seen a physio also who has created a strengthening regime for the ankle. Good luck, Im about 95% recovered now.
