might be losing my job

Well, where do I start I've already used this sight about my two prolapsed discs, but I guess today things are getting me down. After going through injections, physio, disectomy and I now wearing a rigid back brace and have been since July. The outcome is supposed to be, if the pain decreases I have to have a fusion ,if not decompression surgery.

Well, as I say I have been wearing this back brace since July and have noticed a great improvement whilst wearing it, only when I take it off at night the sciatic pain returns with the low back pain, nothing I can't handle-used to it now, but I have to wait til October to discuss the fusion and be put on a NHS waiting list.

The problem is I haven't been able to work for a year and today they tell me that they have to start procedures as they cannot keep my job open any more, I work in a school with many stairs lots of sitting and walking and bending, which I just cannot do, especially with the restriction of the back brace and also the pain whilst standing too long. Just feel abit useless and needed to off load, guess theres more people in worse situations.

Thanks

Hi, im really sorry to hear about your situation. I work in a school been off since 5mths and my worst fear was to lose my job. I am returning back to work in a couple of weeks not because im better so i dont lose my job. I am currently seeing a chiropractor had 3 sessions it has aggravated my back but thats part of the treatment. I know your situationn is a little different to mine. Would you not consider seeing one?keep hope there has to be light under a dark tunnel. x

I am now waiting to see the consultant to see where i go from hear sad but at the end of the day it's out off your hands maybe your young enough to get back to work hope you can try to keep your chin up there iv'e had my moan take care pat

Thanks to you both for replying, I did initally go to the chiropractors, but they wouldn't touch my back as they were frightened that they might paralise me, and the hospital hasn't mentioned going back to them, they are talking about a spinal fusion.

I think in lots of ways you are let down by the system, where you feel compelled to return to work in pain just to save your job, I tried to go back several times but it lased 2 days and then I would be laid up for 10.

I'm thinking now that it may be time for a career change when the operation is over, something more desk based, which is not really my cup of tea, but I guess I have to think of my health for the furture.

So sorry Pat to hear about your situation, I know what you mean about doing daily things is hard let alone working as well, pain makes you feel down and pain medication doesn't help, I think I will have to accept that losing my job will happen and try and look forward to after the operation.

Once again, thanks for your comments take care xxx
