Might need hip revision

Posted , 4 users are following.

Had anterior hip replacement 31/2 yrs ago. It never felt right. My surgical leg was longer & i felt constant pressure over the top of leg like it was bulging out. Always felt like it was an alien part of my body that didn't mesh well. More recently this year have been having strong pain in my upper thigh. Going for a bone scan monday. I think i need a revision. Has anyone else had these symptoms? This is my first time posting.

There are a few hippies on the forum who have had revision surgery. The op is a bit more complicated but tends to be done by more experienced surgeons and the success rate is good.

I'm 5 weeks post my revision and feel great (off to the Hogwarts experience with grandsons today)

    Good luck

Sorry to hear of your problems. I would want to find an alternative surgeon to the one who did the primary, preferably one with lots of experience of doing revisions.

I've just had a revision to my very successful twenty year old hip and it was actually in the event just a matter of leaving the stem in place and replacing the ball and the cup.

I'm now seven weeks weight bearing and can almost forget that I've had this surgery apart from doing my exercises!

I wnt for a 2nd opinion this week and found out that the surgeon put my new hip at a different angle from my real hip angle...called an "offset". He also lenthened my operative leg.  All of this is occassionally done to stabilize the new hip. However he never told me this despite 2 yrs of me going back to him and saying my hip is bulgiing and my operative leg is too long. In addition he told me I have some mild scoliosis which he found post op and says contributes to my pelvic obliquity (uneven pelvis).  I think ALL people having a THR should have a spinal film so the surgeon can figure out the proper angle etc for the new hip.  That's my rant smile  I will be having blood work to rule out infection(unlikely) and Bone Scan Monday to see if I have an unstable stem.  Will update!

Oh dear what a sod but at least you have a better idea of where you stand.

      Good luck going forward.

      Cheers
