migraine and prednisolone

Hi everyone,

I have been a regular migraine sufferer for 34 years, averaging about one per week. I've been on prednisolone 15mg for a few weeks now for PMR, and not the slightest hint of a migraine. Could it be down to the steroids? I'm not happy about taking them, but maybe every cloud does have a silver lining!!!

Anyone else had the same experience?

cheers,

Mollycoo

Yes I have used to suffer from migraines not as regularly as yours but at least two a month. I used to take beta blockers to stop them. Mr gp said when prescribing Prednisilone that I would not need the migraine tablets as I should not get any more migraines and in 2.5 years I have not had a migraine.

So as you say every cloud.

    Regards

    Linda

Yes, I had the same experience. A lot fewer headaches. I asked my Rheumy about this and he said that Pred could be helping with my headaches.

See... not all of the side effects are bad.

Of course as I come down with the level of Pred, I'm seeing a few more headaches.

    Hi Linda,

thanks for your post. I'm pleased to hear about your lack of migraine headaches it's great news. Fingers crossed, the same is happening to me. Migraines have been the bane of my life for many years, and it would be good to see the back of them.

    cheers,

    Mollycoo.

    Hi Mollycoo,

I am in your same conditions with attacks that sometimes last for 10 days with vomit. I have been given prednisolone only for 5 days after my recent sever attack and then beta blockers......I am hoping for the best but not feeling very optimistic...

Just to let you know I am down to 1.5mg and I have had a few bad headaches not quite migraine but pretty bad but over 5 years really nothing only recently but cannot wait to get down to zero preds as lots of different side effects. Not so bad one you get below 5mg

    Hi Simona

Like you, I started on 40mgs (PMR and GCA) and remember at times I seemed to have no voice and at others had difficulty stringing two words together! The extreme tiredness and weakness you mention unfortunately goes hand-in-hand with having an inflammatory illness and being on high dose steroids. On one occasion hubby and I were dining at a friend's house and I was suddenly overcome with a bout of extreme fatigue and had to just go to sleep there and then.

This will all pass as your inflammation levels are brought under control and the steroids reduced - meanwhile, don't try to fight through the fatigue but give in to it and try and have lots of daytime naps especially if, as is highly likely, your night time sleep is being disturbed.

    Dear MRSo.

you have helped me a lot and you painted I picture of how I feel and what I should not do (like stupidly trying to work on my sickness leave).

    Many thanks again!
