Migraine type pain for 2weeks

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had migraine type pain for 2 weeks solid. I do suffer from migrianes from time to time but usually no longer than 2-3 days, I take Imigran which do usually lift it. I had a scan a few years ago and this was normal. I also suffer from Menieres Disease but this doesnt seem to be related to the headaches. I saw the doctor on Monday and they advised to take maximum dose of Imigran (6) and also given me a strong anti inflamatory to take twice a day. It has eased slightly but still there. I am concerned I have been suffering for 2 weeks also the amount of Imigran I am taking. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi.Hope you feel better soon. I would just like to know if you suffered with migraines before you had Menieres Disease and if so have your migraines become worse or more frequent since having Menieres Disease.

    Jeanette:

i don't know. So many Dr.'s think migraine MDD overuse is the culprit for everyone and some people (like me) just had a natural (unfortunately) transition to daily.two things that have helped me immensely when I'm in a really, really, bad phase: a ketamine infusion, or a medrol dose pak. Not many dr's do ketamine infusions but the medrol dose Pak might just be the ticket? I wish you only the best and I will pray for your relief!

Hi Jeanette, like you I have found that the only thing to relieve migraine pain is Imigran. I get a migraine at least once a week, so sometimes I'm taking 6-8 Imigran a month, sometimes more. When I collected my prescription from the chemist, he suggested that I may be taking too many but when I spoke to my GP, he said the amount was OK and it was about quality of life, although he did say that migraine sufferers are more likely to have a stroke. I have since seen a neurologist and she was concerned I was taking too many and that they should only be taken occasionally, she has changed my medication to Pizotifen which I have been taking since November. I still get at least one migraine a week but they are now manageable with just taking 2 extra strength paracetamol. I saw my GP on Monday and he said that this was the safest option. If I was you I would discuss it with your GP, what's good for one is not necessarily good for you. Age also may have something to do with it, I'm 59 and have had migraines since I was 17. Good luck.
