Migraine with aura

Hi all, Ive been on this bumpy ride for about 18 months now but today I experienced a silent migraine with aura. I honestly thought i was having a stroke.

It started with the right eye having kaleidoscope aura in my side vision. That lasted 10 minutes and then the headache kicked in with balls on!!!

I've had migraines before but never like this.

Also at the moment I have heartburn all the time and the feeling like i have a burp stuck in my upper chest, along with the feeling of a lump in my throat that isn't there.

How much more is this journey going to throw at me??

Just looking for a friendly ear to reassure me I'm not alone.

Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

I have been getting acid reflux quite frequently. Never suffered with it before but over the past 18 months I have had a lot of trouble with it. This can cause me to have upper abdominal pain which radiates up into my chest and my back. I was prescribed peptac by my doctor to take and it has helped a lot. I had a migraine with aura last month. They certainly aren't pleasant! Migraines can be triggered by hormone changes. I seem to get a lot more headaches/pressure in the last 18 months with other horrible symptoms which I think are linked to my hormones. Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone and I hope you can find some relief soon.

    All the best,

    Hi Sarah

I have had 3 Aura Migraines and like you said they are very scary. My 1st happened 7 years ago just after I had my son, then 3 years later then another one last December. My doctor says I don't get them regularly enough to be prescribed anything for them but I also thought the 1st time I was taking a stroke. My GP believed they were related to a surge in hormones. They are so unpleasant and mine would last about 15 mins. The last time I got them I had to lie on the bed with my eyes closed until the kaleidoscope effect disappeared. I was lucky I didn't get the headache with mine but I also suffer dreadfully with health anxiety so they then cause a panic attack. so my husband had to stay beside me the whole time and reassure me.

I believe I started my perimenopausal journey about a year ago but when I contacted my GP she was very dismissive, told me I was far to young at 43!! When I explained my mother was 42 and my grandmother was 38 she still said it was unlikely so I avoided the Drs. But I have been having numerous symptoms, irregular periods, night sweats, itchy skin on arms and neck, but worst is the sensation of a burning tongue, which apparently can be quite common. I am going to see a new Dr next week (which I'm dreading beyond belief)

You are definitely not alone on this journey, we are all on this to support and be that friendly ear that we all need (its sometimes easier chatting to strangers)

    Take care xx
