Migraines and snoring

After being on Pizotifen for over 2 years and thinking that I had found my 'cure', my migraines have started to increase again to nearly every other day. Spoke to my GP and changed to Topiramate but that made no difference, so I now have another appointment with the neurologist in 10 weeks time. This morning I woke again with a migraine, my last one two days ago, and my husband said that I had been snoring last night. We have been married for over 40 years and he said that it is only in recent years that I have started snoring. I have mentioned that to my GP on several occasions and just recommended nasal sprays. So we goggled migraines and snoring and there was interesting but not conclusive study done in 2011. So my plan is to come off my meds, try and control the snoring, keep a record and go armed with all the info to take to the neurologist. Also, has anyone had any luck with magnesium? Any thoughts and ideas welcome. I am a migraine sufferer of over 40 years so this isn't a recent thing.

I am 63 years old and have had migraines since i was 12 years old. I snore when I am asleep and wake with a migraine every morning. My neurologist referred me to a sleep expert and I had sleep study done over night in hospital. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea which can cause morning migraines. I was prescriped a CPAP machine to use at bedtime but it made my headaches worse and told to stop using it I go back to sleep expert in april as there are options that i can try . Hope this is of some help and if I were you I investigate itĀ  I am waiting for CGRP but wont be available here in Ireland till 2019. I am waiting to fly to London again to see Prof. PJ Goadsby again at Kings CollegeĀ  but it could be May or June he is so busy. Hope something works for you people that dont get migraines do not understand what it is like to be in pain nearly all the time. Let me know if anything helps you.

Thank you for your reply Joan, this is interesting because it is only something I thought of recently. As I said, I have been a migraine sufferer since I was 17, I am now 61, but they were always manageable and I only used to get 3/4 a year. Then about 15 years ago they became more frequent and unresponsive to over counter meds. So I have tried many preventative meds with the only one that made any difference, Pizotifen, but since before Christmas they have again become more frequent. My husband had noticed that I was snoring a few years ago and I did mention it a couple of times when I went to my GP and it was only yesterday when I woke with a migraine again that my husband said that I had been snoring alot that night, so it was interesting when we goggled it and there may be a link. So I am monitoring them, using a nasal spray and I am going to get my GP to refer to an ENT specialist. I have also got another neurologist appointment. It does seem that there doesn't appear to be a cure because we all suffer differently. I will keep you posted as how I get on.
