Migraines & PMR?

Could someone help me with this newest sympton of PMR or whatever it is that is causing it? I must say that I never get headaches of any kind. Have had PMR for 3 years. Down to 8mg of Prednisone now. Am pretty careful with my diet but all of a sudden, I started getting migraines - Once at a restaurant when I drank 2 sweet tea drinks. Could not even drive home. Darn. I hardly ever eat out! That was bad enough but then 1 weeks later, a whopper of a headache occured at climaxing. This is no joke. It is changing my life!!! I know our arteries are inflamed but it seems  I have something going wrong. Could I have GCA now? Are others with PMR having similar symptoms? I have a doc appointment this Wednesday & want to be prepared if you all have any ideas about what to discuss with him? Thank you in advance for your time.

I get migraines as does my son and his father and none of us get them like that. Never like a flash as you are describing. In fact most people can tell when one is coming on so I would say that you're are not classic migraines. I'm glad that your going to see your doctor. Don't let him out convince you it's just a migraine. I would almost insist that some tests be done. Preferable a C-scan to look for signs of strokes.

Please get blood tests for GCA and see and eye specalist as soon as you can.. you could very well have GCA, and it would be wise to sort this quickly....insist if you have to....I speak from experience..it can be dangerous to leave these headaches..... hope you are okay.

    Hi Joey,

My friend Paula started having the same kind of headaches... especially during a climax. She went to the Dr and insisted that they check her head/brain. And sure enough they found a small aneurism that was easily fixed. Hope you are well.

Very good point, Sharon.  I should have thought to mention it.  In my family my mother and two first cousins have suffered from aneurysms.

Thank you everyone for your comments. My doctor thinks, I may have Hypertention so I have to record my blood pressure at different times of the day for 2 weeks. Hopefully by the 17th, I can let you all know if his diagnosis is right. He thinks it is Prednisone induced Hypertention but because I have some sight problem on the left eye, he thinking about giving my head a scan. If it is a small a aneuism, they will find it. I made an appointment with the eye Doc too for the 23rd just in case GCA. Another opinion is always helpful. Those eye Docs can look deep within the eye to the back of it. I worried about that darn Prednisone (been on it 3 yrs) causing me more problems but what choice do we have? Am more than overly tired. Kind of thought I may have a heart problem. Guess, Prednisone bothers the heart too??? Can hardly lift my legs to walk but I work & have to carry on. Live alone.

Interesting in your post you mention how you reacted to sweet tea drinks.  I think you may be needing to be very careful of your blood sugar levels.  Early on I had rather high blood sugar readings and was very strict with myself regarding refined carbs, especially wheat, and sweet things.  Not that I ate much sweet stuff anyway, but I have limited the treats for a long time now.  Sugar can be a real problem and may be causing many of our chronic Western illnesses.   Also, make sure you are properly hydrated with

Thank you Anhaga and everyone else too. Good suggestions/advice. Thank you! There will be more intense testing after my May17th appointment. I even made an appointment on May 23 for the Opthomologist. She should see if GCA is rearing it's ugly head when she uses her instuments to look into the back of my eye. Either way, I do need new glasses. Regular Doctor didn't think it was GCA. He pressed on each temple & asked if I had pain where he pressed? I didn't so he rules out GCA. I appreciate all your support.Thank you again.
