Migraines when waking up

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, I have always been a migraine sufferer but recently I have migraines as soon as I wake up in the morning, as if it has a been "brewing" in my sleep? Has anyone else had this? Did any medication/diet changes work for you? And reduce your migraines? It's just worrying me why I am getting them when I wake up in the morning.

Many thanks smile

This is my most common style of migraine, I will be woken up with them through the night or early morning. The weird dreams I've had, where I have dreamt someone was killing my with an axe and then waking up to the excruciating pain. sad

      Hi calire,

oh gosh! that sounds awful, i mentioned in a reply to someone else earlier about amitriptyline, i have recetly started taking it. i started off on 10mg at night and have just increased it to 20mg. it helps with sleep at night, and acts as a preventative for migraine. maybe this is worth trying as it might help sort your night time problems?

    Hello Sunnsky

I share your sympathy so do I.

I wake up sometimes with a visual disturbance migraine but I find if I haven't slept properly going to bed late or even a good trigger that will cause one.

Also stress can bring one on aswell.

So I know how you feel.

Look at your life style see what you could do to change it. Improve go for walks go to your gym and work out that helps me and with my back problem. Keep your water intake to two kites of water a day if you can that helps to keep you well too. It also stops constipation and not dryness to your organs in your body. I learnt this from my doctor and my gym instructors.. never skip breakfast either.

    I hope I've helped you

    All the best liz😊

      Hi Liz,

That's some brilliant tips! thank you ever so much, I struggle to eat in the mornings but my neurologist also mentioned the importance of eating regularly and drinking lots. So I'm going to take this on board and see if it makes a change.

I hope you migraines have settled down a little bit, thanks for all the advice.

    Just happened to me today...

I was working night shift and when I went to bed in the morning they were doing construction work nearby and I had a horrible sleep... I woke up in the afternoon with a mild headache and it just got worse by the minute...

It quickly became a migraine after my first cup of coffee (which I threw up almost immediately) and I'm in bed for like 6 hours.... I think the worst has passed, I only got pain in my left eye right now...

      Hi mike,

Oh gosh! that sounds awful, did resting/sleep help at all? I get frequent headaches/migraines when I wake up in the morning like a pulsing pain in my head and any slight movement makes it worse, my neurologist mentioned to me to take a small dosage of aspirin I haven't tried this yet as I'm on some other medication and cannot take aspirin with them, but maybe its worth reading up to see if aspirin works? and if so it might be a good treatment for you to try if you get it again in the morning.

Hi, I to like u suffer from migraines and I went to see my gp and I got put onto pregabalin 50mg tablets and within a few weeks, they began to help me, I suggest u see ur gp to see if u can get ur medication changed, also find that at the start of a migraine, I dissolve two 300mg soluble aspirin in a mouthful of water and within 15 minutes to an hour at the most, the migraine disappears, hope u get sorted.

      Hi dawn,

oh wow!! I've never heard of taking aspirin before until the neurologist mentioned it to me a few months back, I haven't came across anyone who's tired it yet, so has it worked for you? I can't take it at the moment because of some other medication I am on but when I come off that I hope to try it and see if it can make a change.

I have been given amitriptyline started of on 10mg now booed it to 30g, I haven't seen any improvement yet with my headaches/migraines. Did/do you suffer with migraines when waking up? my pain problem I have is pulsing and any slight movement makes it worse. If I could find some medication to help with that then it would be amazing! Hope the medication carries on working for you and you stay clear of migraines.

All the best, Sunny Sky X
