Migrating pain

Posted , 7 users are following.

I've been doing well since I upped my pred from 20 mg to 30 and then back to 25

Suddenly I have a patch of pain on one side of my gluteus maximus.

Curious because the last time that muscle group was affected was on the opposite side.

Is that a common occurence?

I doubt that is "just" PMR - it sounds more like piriformis syndrome or myofascial pain syndrome. But these are high doses for PMR - and really some more investigations should be carried out.

This is exactly what Im dealing with right now. I saw my Internal Medicine Dr yesterday. My piriformis, sciatic, quads and hip flexors are taking turns with pain. Eileen as others suggested a physiotherapist or physical therapist which i see today. My dr suggested I up my pred to 30 from 23.

Drop every 10 days. Frustrated as I was at 20mg last Aug and took me all winter to get to 10mg in Feb THEN THIS! My goal is to get below 10mg. Its a long haul for sure. This is year 6 for me! Good luck, I feel ya!

I like your title. Early in my journey I noticed pains would be in one place for a while then somewhere else later. At the time I thought it should be called PMMR - Poly Migrating Myalgias Rhuematica. Even now, 17 months after this all started, little pains come & go. Thankfully I am mostly pain free. Currently at 6 mg Pred.

That really is quite unusual in PMR - but it is typical of a form of inflammatory arthritis and is termed palindromic rheumatism.

Thank you Eileen for your response. I looked up PR and I can’t totally discount it. I do have joints that hurt occasionally, especially ones from previous injuries/surgery. Other areas that can ache are above a wrist and ankle. Maybe this is tendons. Also mid thigh. Forearm. Not all the time. And doesn’t last long – even just momentary at times.

I have been athletic and just recently been able to get back to doing more. I know what exercise induced muscle soreness and the knee, that I had ACL surgery on, its swelling and aches feels like. I really like to think I listen to my body and that is what has been so frustrating about PMR. I didn’t understand the messages it was sending me, that is until I had learned enough, thanks in large part to this forum, to understand how much I should do.
