Mild Agoraphobia?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have not been "out out" since February of this year. I've gone a few places but I left before it got too late, and I felt like I couldn't really enjoy myself. I felt like I was going explode. I got home and checked my blood pressure and it was pretty high. I'm just worried about having a panic attack while out or driving. I can get up and go to work with no problem and go certain places during the day that don't require alot of activity, but when it comes to getting out and having fun with my friends I can't do it. I'm just too scared something will happen. My 25th birthday is next month and I'm afraid I won't be able to enjoy it. My doctor has prescribed me Lexapro and xanax (which I'm too scared to take) what should I do? If I can go to work and all that why can't I get out at night? Please help!

I know what you're going through. You need to understand that all this is in your mind and the mind is a powerful thing which can be manipulated. My brother had agoraphobia for a year and didnt leave the house once, and suddenly it went away.

I'm afraid of some medication as well and whether it would make it worse or not.

Try stepping out of your comfort zone, and try not to think about how you "may" panic. The more you try the better it will get. Have a drink to calm you down if you're not already on medication.

    Good luck!

We all wish it were that easy

I dont think you understand Panic/Anxiety

Your comments can actually work in reverse letting folks on here think its all in their mind ....

Its much more complex than turning on and off a switch or training your mind to think a certain way . It can be crippling ...... And needs be be treated .. Not everyone is so lucky like your brother ( so happy for him ) that one day it just dissapears , its much more complex , but is treatable with counseling and possibly meds if counseling isn't enough .
