Mild frequent heartburn, tight throat with lump feeling?

Posted , 12 users are following.

At the start of this year I started getting mild but frequent heartburn especially after eating, then shortly afterwards it came every day. After geting the courage to go the doctors I was put on Omperazole for a month which the symptoms went away. Once I had finished they came back again so I have been back to my GP and he recommended testing for h pylori, this came back negative. I have also been getting a tight throat with a lump feeling, one time it was so bad I thought it was going to close up!! I am seeing a consultant next week and am dreading that I will have to have an endoscopy done but also worried about that they might find. Any ideas or reassurance?

Hey , your condition sounds pretty similar to mine. I did my endoscopy after 4 weeks of ppi failed to make the heartburn go away. Don't be all scared it's a simple procedure about 5-7mins at most with barely any pain at all (i took the sedation option) . I got diagnosed with GERD and they found a small hernia. Been on omeprazole now and seems to help but i'm just being concerned about the long term effects of the medication. If h.pylori is negative you probably just have gerd like me but do get it checked out just to be sure

Hey Kevin thanks for the reply. Think I've just read your other post and think we are of a similar age (32) so good to hear from someone who's been through a similar thing. The first couple of times I went onto PPIs they took the heartburn away then I self medicated and have since gone back onto omeprazole of which they have taken the heart burn away but not the other GERD symptoms yet. Have you spoken to your doctor about the long term effects of a ppi? Seemingly some people are on them for life so surley can't be that bad, I've read some where you might have to take certain supplements with them? Glad you got the heartburn issue resolved.

i think we are in a similar situation. i did several trips to er last year from. heartburn, this time my primary care doctor, requested a referral for endoscopy and endocrinology. I keep myself to think this is for a purpose for  me not to worry and to stop asking myself why i have this. its going to be my first time. i still have to call them for an apointment. they sent me a letter. goodluck to us. hope everything goes well. i didn't take the prescribed medicine. i am taking manuka honey umf15

As promised an update on my situation. After my consultation the consultant recommended a endoscopy and colonoscopy. I freaked at the thought of having two done!! After 10 days of being a nervous wreck thinking about having both of these procedures I went into hospital today and had them done. For any one that's nervous it really was a piece of cake! I had sedation and I don't even remember them inserting the mouth piece for the endoscopy or any of that procedure or anything of the colonoscopy! I'm still even wondering if they did anything!! The results have been a hietas hernia causing the acid reflux and some inflammation so need to go back in two weeks for a review together with my biopsie results. I'm pleased that I finally know what's causing the heartburn and can get it treated.

Wonderfull news for you Ian! Isnt that stuff they put you to sleep with fantastically effective. My only concern was did they do the throat first?

To be honest I don't know which end they did first as I was 'out of it' before they even started! I think it was the endoscopy as my throat was sprayed when I first went in. I wouldn't have any issues with having it done again.

My blood pressure went through the roof with my first one (now an old hand!). think the stuff I had was the same as what Michael Jackson was on. After the procedure BP went down to 110!! Suppose thats why I'm afraid of the dark! Being a Virgo also causes grief.
