i have not had a mince pie in any shape or form since i was diagnosed with diverticular disease. i just don't think it is worth the risk. how about a spicy apple cake instead. no other fruit, just peeled apples and spices. Delia Smith does a good recipe online, (omitting the mixed peel).

I've had diverticulitis for many years, and find that as long as I only have one, I'm fine, but I don't eat any other form of fruit ie Xmas cake as well. Some foods do cause me trouble, and I do avoid those, but it's too hard to deny oneself of everything

Thank you. She has particularly said she'd like to have one (or three!) but is anxious about setting off an attack. Its early days for her so she will have to find her way.

I've heard people say certain foods cause flare ups, my doctors have all said those foods have never been found to effect everyone, so you unfortunately probably need to find your triggers the hard way.

One thing they did tell me was low fiber foods like white bread / white rice / etc will help during flare ups, so I suppose trying to stick to that as much as possible could help avoid a flare up as well.

I think most of it is just eating small portions with lots of liquids to keep things moving, once you get backed up, things can go wrong and fatally so in my case fast.

Welcome aboard the Diverticulitis train 😕
