Mini stroke - vision

Posted , 3 users are following.

My 76 year old mother had sudden loss of half of her vision in one eye. It came on suddenly and she said it was like a line across her vision with the bottom half blurry. We went to the ER and she had a clear CT scan. The ER diagnosed her with a mini stroke and wanted to admit her. My mother is difficult and refused. She also had a mild headache afterwards. Has anyone had similar symptoms that either were or were not a TIA? Any advice is appreciated.

    hello

what made them think it was a MINI stroke? if she has a mini stroke . i had a similar symptons like eye blurr, tingly , i got a little confused , so my work call 911 and i had a ct was clear, blood work for heart, blood clot all clear , went to eye doctor (i had eye blurr) thats was clear and brain MRI (no signs of stroke ) i wear a heart monitor for 14 days and all clear. im 49 years . maybe something with her eyes?

i hate doctor assuming is a stroke and maybe it wasnt. when they did the mri they found a small bening cyst in the pititiary gland but im not worry about it .

Honestly, I don't know. Her only symptoms were the bottom half of one eye went blank and a mild headache. Even her discharge paperwork says TIA. When I typed her 1/2 vision symptom into Dr. Google, it did say stroke. I had a migraine aura four months ago and also had crazy vision symptoms.

yea after all i had i went to a neurologist and he said migranes.

let me tell you in 2014 i took a antibiotic and 20 min later i had slur speech, my arm kind of went, numb and i had a rash coming up my upper chest so i drove myself to the ER and diagnose me with TIA and to this day i 100 % beleived it was the medicine that cause my reaction. Maybe your mom needs to see a doctor and make sure is not that

This is all very stressful. I wish there was a definitive way to know. Thank you!

If she has any remaining residual symptoms, it possibly wasnt a TIA, they usually dont leave a trail which is why they're often so hard to diagnose and often nothing shows up on scans. The clue is in the name - Transient (Ischaemic Attack). Obviously because they are often fleeting and dont show up on tests/scans some patients dont believe it could be a TIA when told. Other causes of such eyesight issues can be plaque in the eye as a result of high cholesterol or detached retina. Worth trying to encourage her to see her GP or eye doctor and certainly have blood tests done.

Thank you for replying. Her eye issue only lasted 5 minutes and other than the mild headache, no other symptom. She has a GP appointment tomorrow. I'm just upset because she is so stubborn and refused to stay in the hospital.
