Mirena advice appreciated

Had a mirena fitted 7 months ago, due to really heavy painful periods causing anaemia on a regular basis. Consultant recommend mirena. Just wondered people's experience of it. Haven't had proper period since but am in pain daily, some days so extreme nearly pass out, seems to be both sides lower abdomen/groin area. Comes and goes in severity but can actually wake me up and double me over at night, even to point where my partner on verge of ringing ambulance. Have struggled with constipation since fitted and loss of appetite as when i eat seems to set the pain off again. I am due back to see my consultant in three weeks and I know I just can't carry on like this. I always thought I had quite a pain threshold but this totally debilitating. Just wondering anyone else's experience. Thought 7 months long enough to settle, yet pain just getting worse. Thank you

All of this pain is from the Mirena? Or this is the pain you have before Mirena and are wondering if you should get it? Sorry I'm a bit confused. I can say that I've had Mirena since Jan. and I had pain for about a week when I first had it put in. After that the pain went away. Since then I've barely had a period at all, on my other birth control I was having very heavy periods that were lasting for a MONTH. If I do it's very, very, very light just light enough for a very thin pad and sometimes I don't even need that. I have had a little bit of pain in my side once since having it in and I think that could have been a cyst. That has also gone away.

Thanks for reply, did have very painful periods but that obviously was just when I was on. Now I have mirena fitted the pain is more constant, when I first had it fitted was in pain for about a week which i expected, then pain went. But over last 4/5 months pain has been constant, don't think I have had a pain free day, some days are worse than others but is pretty much constant, no periods and it's not like the period pain I had before.

Due back to my consultant in a few weeks. Can't carry on like this, having to take painkillers every 6 hours to just get through the day, started getting really bad pains in my legs now. Thinking surely this can't be normal or how would people cope with it. I appreciate it takes time to settle, but surely shud have settled by now...not progressively get worse x

That's definitely not normal, I'm sorry this is happening to you. If you can't wait to see your doctor I would suggest going to the ER. There's no way I'd make it as long as you have in that much pain, something is definitely not right. I hope something can be found out or figured out for you. Best of luck.

Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate it. Was thinking if this was normal and my partner was 'no way are you meant to be in that much pain you almost pass out'.....he said the other day I was actually grey in colour.....just fed up I think...its so draining. Again thank you.

Hi, just wanted to let u know I had to go and see my doc today, just pain was getting too much. She was really good, said that she actually didn't think it was related to the mirena and could just be a coincidence. She thinks something more could be going on, so she booking me in for urgent scan, so guess I just have to wait and see. Thank you for advice xx

I'm so glad to hear that you went and saw your doctor a lot earlier than I thought you were. Also I hope this scan can give you some quick answers and you'll be back to "normal" and with less pain! Thank you for letting me know.
