Mirtazapine 7.5MG Withdraw. (Please read)

**Anyone who reads this please do not go cold-turkey from this medication**

I have tried to come off this medication once -- I went cold-turkey without realizing what it would do. I wasn't informed about the withdrawal symptoms I would get if I tried to stop it and If I had known before taking it I never would have considered taking this medication. When I went cold-turkey my following symptoms were;

Insomnia.

Vomiting.

Rapid weight loss.

Panic attacks.

High-anxiety.

Depersonalization.

Derealization.

Heart-palpitations.

I was off the medication for about two weeks and I couldn't take it anymore so I went back on it. I was on 15MG for three years, I cut down to 7.5MG when I went back onto Mirtazapine and this is my fourth year on it. Anyone who says 7.5mg isn't doing anything, you're very mistaken because this dosage helps me sleep and has caused me to put on a lot of weight, too. Now I want off it -- but my question is, how do I exactly come off this medication without experiencing what I did before? I need like a guide on how much I should cut down each week or something, and I cannot speak to my GP about this because as far as I'm concerned my GP isn't well informed about this medication because my GP's advice was to stop taking it after 3 days which I did and then I had that hell experience and he actually wanted me to not go back on it. So I am doing this solo, I just need a helping hand.

In December 2019, I had a biopsy to establish why I was suffering from very itchy skin and scalp.

Without any discussion, the consultant asked my GP to add 7.5mg Mirtazapine on to the medication I was already taking for other conditions, so I have been taking that dose every evening since.

I thought the drug was intended to relieve the itch - it did not and I still suffer from the itch condition which evidently is common in older folk, I am 80 and I believe it can be controlled by of fairly high doses of Prednisolone. I was never offered any further consideration from my GP's practice about the results of the biopsy nor of the dangers of Mirtazapine.

Having read the Mirtazapine leaflet included in a recent prescription, I was horrified to find out that this medication is primarily used as an anti depressant, a condition from which I have never suffered.

I read here of the difficulties others have endured in 'coming off' this medication and although the dose I am on is small, shudder to think of the needless suffering I might have to endure in stopping this drug. As the pill is only available in the 15mg form I have to cut it in half to achieve the prescribed dfose. (A pain in the bum)

Anyway I am going to stop taking this nasty drug and I'll keep you informed.

    hi october 93,

I was on cymbalta from 2013 -2017, decided to wean off and it took me nearly nine months to tape it off even with safe tapering during those days I still experienced dizziness and fatigue. I am taking mirtazapine started with 15 mg then down to 7.5 mg for I still have a problem to fall to sleep. My pyschiatrist wants to change to doxepin to help with my sleep , he suggested to stop taking mirtazapine immediately but from my past experience I told him that I want to slowly wean off so I am doing half of mirtazapine since last two days, already I have anxiety, chill and sweat while tapering . so my suggestion to you is you must to discuss with your pyschiatrist to help you with your weaning off. If you still want to wean off mirtazapine do it very slowly , like 3-5% a week or two then move on with this weaning off ratio. However, any side effect might appear during tapering since you have been on this med for many years, your body need time to adjust to the tapering. If side effect really bother then stop tapering for a while then try cut down to 2% and see how your body react to it. It is hard when wean off medication like mirtazapine, but give yourself times to do so then rush and cause worst withdraw symptom which you do not want to see that happen because it feel so terrible feeling like being in the hell! May God blesses you with His love and peace!

    Hi!

I just wanted to share my experience and a quick tip that worked for me. I started with 15mg everynight mirta coming off xanax (nightmare). then down to 7.5 and now to 3.25 mg every 3/4 days.

I found that taking Ashwaghandha (drops) and Rhodiola as Im tappering helps my anxiety and side effects a lot while lowering the doses. it takes a week to start noticing (for me) and sometimes 2 weeks. I really hope this helps you. because when I did cold turkey for xanax I literally went to the dark side and back. So I learnt better with Mirta.

I took myself off of it 2 days ago. Feel awful but I lost total hearing to my right ear. Searched through all my meds and found metrazapine can cause ototoxicity. I was put on for severe nausea and weight loss of 30 lbs. Going to my Dr. tomorrow to see whats going on with my ear. Im scared right now, but will see what they find.

I take mirtazapine only occasionally for really bad insomnia and for whatever reason I seem to be super sensitive to it. If I take 7.5mg at night I sleep really well and I am a total zombie for the next 24 hours. So I use a razor blade to cut off a tiny spec of the pill it still seems to really knock me out and I am still very drowsy the next day. The amount I consume might be as little as a small fraction of a mg. Because of how badly it makes me feel the next day I only take it a few times a week.

I am also sensitive to other medications many of which actually worsen my insomnia or give me headaches.
