Mirtazapine and urinary problems.

So like the title says, i need to know if any of you while on mirt and after coming off of it had this exact problem or im just the only one.
The story is: on October 27 i began to have feelings of a UTI , on nov 1 i went to the hospital because i couldnt take it anymore and they did a urine test, 3 blood test and a ct scan. Everything came clear, i only appeared to have a very small infection, so i started antibiotics and at day 3 weirdly the infection went away but i still had the symptoms of a UTI . I on my on decided to do 3 more urine test, cultive urine test and 2 blood test for cancer and all came clear , just some yeast infection and crystals. the yeast infection went away and i dont know about the crystals. The thing is even after all coming clear i still had the same problem and getting worst. so i stopped mirt at 0.7 this 11 and now things are a bit better, some days better than others but still not gone. The main symptoms are frequency , back then retention and some irritation and bladder pressure. Where i live which its not usa, those are the only test i can do since the other are extreamly expensive. i did made an appointment with my ginecologist but its for may of 2022. So what i want to know is if any of you got something like this. i do notice that if i eat something sweet or milk it flares so im in a very strict diet. plz dont leave scary comments of illness since i know about that i just need to know if anyone can relate and send tips or something that could help? thank you.

I'm having bladder problems which I am linking to mirtazapine. Did you manage to recover? I hope you did. Would be helpful to hear how you did it? Thanks and regards

Hello, and no, this 27 its gonna be 6 months with the problem. The gynecologist examinate me, i got a urine cytology exam which cost me 100$ and its a test to know if you have cancer in the urethra and it came clear, more urine test and all clear, overall, everything so far has come clear. I got my pap test and i still need to wait 4 week to get the results and a Endo-vaginal exam this 29. All those test for my urologist appointment because my gynecologist told me i had to got to one to figure out what i have since all exams came clear, but that he suspect that i have Cystitis interstitial , that can be cause by a lot of things including an antidepressant. I also got a blood test done to see if i had bladder cancer and it came clear. Si yeah, till this day, im breaking my head, getting in to deep depression and stress along with my health anxiety getting super bad, because i keep wondering why the hell i got this out of the blue and it still wont go away, but like i been saying this whole time, i think it truly is mirtazapine the culprit of this nightmare.
Here are my symptoms which have actually changed a little through out this moths:
Irritation in the urethra.
Irritation on the genital area. vulva which has gone pretty much away but sometimes i still get a bit.
some pain in the urethra and vulva.
Pressure and pain and discomfort in the bladder.
Urgency to pee even if its just drops of pee.
Frequency same i the urgency.
pain in the opening of the urethra.
irritation.
urinary retention( at the beginning of this nightmare, i couldn't pee, that's how horrible it was, and it stayed like that for almost 2 moths.)
Cant empty my bladder at once so i have to got way to often to the bathroom ( a looot of times to the bathroom) reason why i barely go out and been almost secluding myself thanks to this horrible situation.
Now, this is what i have figured out so far ( and trust me, figuring this out on my own has been the 2nd most difficult thing for me)
If i have cystitis like my gynecologist and doctor said i might have, then that explains why i cant barely eat anything. I'm on a very strict diet, reason why ive lost sooo much weight.
I cant eat: any condiment in powder, specially pepper ( any kind, black, white none) i cant eat sweets stuffs, only once in a while like one , only one Hershey kiss, that's it. Cant eat crackers, bread, yogurt, cereals. Cant eat anything that is precooked, sausages, nuggets or anything of that sort. Cant drink milk, juice, soda, coffee and only one specific type of water, not any brand of water. Cant eat rise all the time just once in a week, potato's as well, cant eat mayonnaise, cant drink lemon, cant eat all types of fruits, just watermelon. nothing spicy of course, that's forbidden, and much more. If i don't eat all listed and drink a lot of water, then i feel much better and if im lucky, almost cured. I also have to be careful of what i drink in terms of pills. like vitamins and any kind of pill.
That's all i have manage to find on my own because no doctor has helped me. I hope i helped you if you have the same as me, and if not, at least try and see if you feel much better. Take care and keep in touch.

It sounds like you have had the most awful experience over these last few months. I would imagine that with such a strict diet you should start to see some improvements soon if it is IC. I really hope you find some peace from these symptoms soon as I find it very relatable.
Did you stop your mirtazapine or are you still on it? The trouble is that it seems to be so much harder to get off mirtazapine.
I'm looking at stopping it to see if that helps. I had this three times before with different anti depressants and when I stopped them the urinary tract problems settled down after a time. Once it was a few weeks but the other times it was several months. And as the time went on I just got more and more anxious, lost more and more weight and became really quite ill. Then it suddenly stopped and I have no idea why. I presume it was as my nervous system calmed down as if there one thing that's true its that stress and mental trauma are a disaster for the bladder.
Have you tried something called Azo. It was recommended to me as I thought I may have IC but it didn't work in my case but it might be worth a try. All the IC forums really sing its praises and a lady actually sent some to me in the post to try when I had my cystoscopy.
I send my prayers and good wishes to you. Take care 🙏

Yes, it is an awful experience. I'm even traumatize, reason why im starting to see a psychologist to see if it can help me get out of this depression and stress im in, feels like a nightmare, but no luck with that as well 😕 . About mirtazapine, yes i have stop mirtazapine, i stopped at 0.7 mg, its been 4 moths since i stopped taking it and i think is now that I'm getting a bit of withdrawals since no one gets things the same way, and like you said, i assumed that once i stop taking that hell of a pill i would get better but.... no. Lets see if after this moths things get better. Cystitis interstitial its something that needs treatment or you will never get better, at least that's what the forums said; I don't know. But with my experience, i think its true. That's why im going to the urologist to get a cystoscopy done ( hoping is the last exam i get done, im tired of all this test and stress from it) i just want a treatment and to get better.
My prayers for you as well, hope things turn better and you get out of it to. Take care as well. 😃

Thank you. At least you know the mirtazapine is no longer in your body and you are doing everything you can to get well. You are in my thoughts and I truly hope things improve for you soon. I have started taking another anti depressant to try to help but we will see. I will message you if I find any answers x

Hello.
To be honest, im a bit confused on to what's happening with my body and if mirtazapine withdrawals is the one causing it. I know everyone is different and will get affected in different ways, but for me, i think now is when im getting some withdrawals effects? but im also in a very high stress, anxiety and depression, and my mental problems ( the ones who got me to start antidepressants) are sky high because i stopped mirt + what im going through. So i don't know what's going on. I also do have tinnitus, a common side effect of mirt while on it and off of it. from what dose you jump off ? 😃

ive seen to of got worse the longer time has gone on. i have been off mirt 6 weeks now, the 2 weeks my panic and anxiety has got worse as has my Tinnitus. do these feeling subside? i may have to go back to the mirtazapine cause its too hard.
yes i do think its all to do with withdrawals, im feeling alot more stressed like you are. i was on a dose of 7.5mg and stopped cold turkey.
some say it can take between 3-6 months for things to return to normal

Well, here is the thing. Like i said, it hits everyone in a different way, so to your question of "if it will subside or not" it really depends on you, your system and what are you doing to try and make it get better. But believe me, even trying to make it get better its really hard, because this are drugs, the can damage you like it has damage all the people in this forum. including me. Knowing when things will get better its really hard to answer that question, i say give it time, as we are all doing, hoping one day our lives get to the better side. Im no one to tell you don't go back on mirt or go back, but if it helps, everyone who has stopped taking mirt cold turkey or by tapering ( like i did , i tapered and stopped at 0.7 mg) if they go back on it, getting off of it for a second time its a absolutely nightmare. You'll be putting your body to more suffering than what it already had. But you do what you feel its best for you 😃 yet one thing is that going back may or may not help and if it does it will be temporally, and one day you will have to come off, and like i said, could be a more horrible experience. I wish you the best and hope for you as well to get better and out of this nightmare that it seems we all are going through because of one pill. God bless you.

Oh and also, here. Search this and you will see all the side effects while on it and when coming off. Tinnitus is not listed, but it IS a side effect along with a bunch more that are not listed in that list. Trust me, i know.
Search : Common and rare side effects for mirtazapine oral.

thank you for your comments! God bless you too. keep me updated on everything! would appreciate that.
what i might try and do it go back to the 7.5mg and wait for a few months and then reduce slower this time. maybe see if I can stick on a 3.75mg dose.
how do you deal with your tinnitus?
how long have you been off mirt now?

Hello, its been a while but i just want to check in and know how is going for you and the bladder issue? i finally went to the urologist this last month and now im going to my 4th appointment with him. Things are the same , sadly, and i got a cystoscopy done along with a dilatation urethral because my urethra was soo narrowed that it was almost close, yet things are the same or worst after the procedure so lets see what else we can do and what else he says on my next appointment. Tell me about you.
