Mirtazapine/Remeron: can I come off straight away after 1 week?

Hi all,

I've been on Mirtazapine for the last week as I'd been suffering from poor sleep after my wedding (reason unknown, but I began to spiral a bit due to sleep issues which was impacting upon my anxiety and restlessness). Since last Wednesday, I've been taking 15mg at around 9pm in the evening. It has helped my sleep so that I sleep through the night and feel ready for bed, however I must admit that I am not quite myself during the day. I feel quite zoned out, feeling very drowsy and feeling like walking is such a chore for me. I am an active person and a keen sportsman, so feeling lazy and inactive is impacting upon me.

I appreciate this is part and parcel of Mirtazapine however I feel as though perhaps I'd like to come off it, because my day to day life is suffering a bit due to the tiredness. I take Vyvanse/Lisdexamphetamine for my ADHD during the day and even that can't offset the tiredness I feel. I am also slightly concerned about weight gain as I am feeling much hungrier on Mirtazapine.

Overall, I really think Mirtazapine has helped me a lot in the short term for my sleep but I can't carry on feeling half awake during the day. As such, given my low dose and time spent taking it, am I able to stop immediately or should I taper one day on/off before stopping it altogether? I suppose if sleep issues reoccur, then I may need to take it again.

The other option is that I take 30mg instead, as I hear the higher doses are less sedative and more therapeutic for anxiety and depression (which I feel as though I do have in the general sense, especially anxiety).

My GP Is away for some time and not able to give me advice

Many thanks!
