Mirtazapine to serteraline - 23 days ago.

Hi,

I switched from 15mg Mirt to 50mg Sert over 3 weeks ago. I did 50mg for 1 week and 100mg for past 16 days. Mirt seemed to stop working after 8 months for me. I also take 80mg sr propanolol once a day and for the past week 25mg phenergan to help a bit with sleep. I had better days recently but past few days I seem it seems to be going backwards for me. Sleep has been the worst, had some sickness and heightened anxiety too. How long will it be before the 100mg settles in my system, I want to stick it out, but I can't work out if I'm suffering mirt withdrawal or the side effects of Serteraline? Can you still get side effects from 100mg after 16 days?

Any advice would be great if anyone could tell me?

Thanks

Richard

    Hi Richard,

Did the doctor prescribe those varying dosages? Because it looks like you adjust them a lot. I used to do that but my doctor told me the medication won't work as well if the dosages are up and down or skipped. I think it's because your body is also struggling with withdrawal if you're constantly lowering and increasing the dosage back and forth.

Try to stay with one dose level for a few weeks and see how it works.

      Hi,

Yes I came straight off Mirtazapine 15mg then next day started 50 mg Sert for 1 week. I've now been on 100mg for the past 3 weeks. How long do I need to give the 100mg do you reckon? It's bloody hard going!!!!!

      Thanks

I wonder if coming off Mirtazapine so quickly was a good idea. You can sort of blend the two at first. But now it's been three weeks so it's out of your system and there's no point in starting back up. What you probably were experiencing was Martazapine withdrawal, which I heard is very difficult. I don't know much about Sert but it sounds better than Mirtazapine.

I've been taking Wellbutrin for several years now and I didn't realise that antidpressants can just stop working. I thought I was just being lazy. Then I started Mirtazapine and things were terrific until I stepped on the scale. I had gained 20 lbs in only a couple weeks! I hadn't really been eating differently. I found this site and noticed other people were experiencing the exact same thing - huge amounts of weight gain. It's hardly worth it because you start getting depressed about your weight!

Anyway, I'd give it another week or two. Two at the most. If you're still having trouble, see your dr. In the meantime, maybe someone with more experience with Sert can comment?

      Hi,

I thought it could be a mixture of withdrawals from Mirt and side effects from Sert. Heard sert can take around 6-8 weeks to start working properly. Just going to have to stick this out and hope it improves. Probably been unlucky with quitting one and starting another, but it was on docs say so, so I followed what he said.....

Gee, the doctor told you to just quit Mirt cold turkey? Some of these medications can be extremely dangerous being cut out cold turkey. I think Cymbalta is one of them. You could get very, very ill from just stopping without tapering off. Like close to death ill. At the very least, taper them off over a week's time. I had the theta burst treatment and was told to stay on my medication, just in case.

Well, let's see what happens. After a couple weeks, it should be at it's best. But some meds just aren't for some people. Everyone reacts differently. I think I was on Paxil for a time between Prozac and Wellbutrin and it just didn't work for me.

Yes just had to quit. I was only on 15mg of Mirt. It had just stopped working and anxiety and poor sleep gradually crept back in. So now I'm 3 weeks into 100mg Sert, so will just have to play the waiting game!!!!
