Mirtazapine withdrawal

Posted , 136 users are following.

Hey everyone,

I've been on Mirtazapine 30mg since Feb his year but I've had alot of problems with. Ear infections, burning mouth syndrome etc. so my Psychiatrist think's I should come of it. He told me to cut down to 15mg and only take them for a week and then just stop. So I finally stopped taking the 15mg on Mon night and I feel terrible.

It's not just my moods (my depression/anxiety had been great before coming off med), I physically feel really sick, been feeling extremely nauseated and last night couldn't sleep because I kept thinking I was going to throw up. Is this a normal reaction coming off mirtazapine?

Because my depression/anxiety had gotten alot better, we didn't feel the need to just take me off mirtazapine and put on on another drug because I thought I was cured. Plus, I don't want to take any more antidepressants at all really.

PLEASE, any help or advice you offer would be greatly appreciated because I'm really worried now and I don't want to have to go back to taking mirtazapine sad .

Will the withdrawal last long? How long will it take to fully get the tablets out of my system?

Please help,

thanks,

    Hi everyone,

So I've reduced from 30mg to 7.5mg and they say the 4th and 5th weeks are the worst,

Well I don't know if it's just cause I'm into the 4th week, but things yesterday where dodgy, I was anxious and my mood was very low, I was edgy and had the fear, had to take 2 benzo's to feel ok again, and last night I took 15mg which was probably not the right thing to do but today I'm feeling a lot better,

    Hi Everyone

I am on Mirtazapine for close to 2 year and this medicine do help me for my heart palpitations at first ,after take mirtazpine for about a year

On and off my heart palpitations will still happen,at first i am puzzle why i am on mirtazpine and i still have heart palpitations ? i ask the doctor and he mention maybe my anxiety, stress is to high ,so doctor want to increase my 15mg per night to 30mg which i reject ,i told the doctor by increase the mg will not help me recover.as with 15mg on /off i still have heart palpitations .

My doctor dont since to understand wat happen and yet still want increase my mg which anger me.

From that day onward i dont trust the doctor anymore,so 1 fine day i wakeup and was walking toward the toilet and fine mysel with heart palpitations ,so i walk back to my bed and lie down my heart palpitations slow down ,and i try to walk again the heart start to racer again ,so i am puzzile what is happening ?

So instead of call for amblunce ,i go online and search for an answer ,i found someone talk about dehydration.i read about the symptoms ( Vomit, headach, heart palpitations ,weakness, dark yellow urine etc)

The symptoms is simlier to Anxiety, which some doctor may thing you have anxiety ,some of you may have suffer from dehydration which you may not no it.

I am of them which i just suffer from dehydration, when i inform the doctor aboutt it ,he just kepp quite.

Waste 2 year of my life suffer for no reason ,and i start to reduce my mirtazpine from 15mg to 7.5 (2month) than from 7.5 to 3mg (1 month ) total i take 3 month to totaly cut of from mirtazpine.

On and off i still have some side effect ,vomit ,headach, etc, day by day it get better now i have get off mirtazpine for close to 2 month hope it will goes well i will never take this medicine again.

Remember to drink more water is may help you guy from suffer the side effect of mirtazpine.

hi honey ryder, good nutrients certainly helps towards getting the chemistry in our brain to a more balanced level and that defo helps. winter has always been a bit of a dark place for me and eating to much junk in the past has not helped. ive been trying ripe (not green) bananas and its a great way of keeping those winter munchies away. only 80 calories in a banana that is full of what the body and brain likes. will start getting the physical exercise in when spring kicks in : )

    all the best.

kennybhoy, i also had to take the benzos (but not too often) as well as propranalol (beta blocker). had some major panic episodes and high anxiety coming off the mirt. take you're time, you sound like you are doing well. hoping you well : )

    Hi Pjdme

Yes hydration yourself is very important ,do try drink more water at least 2 liter a day ,if you feel anxiety just try drink water if may help you calm down.

*Pls note do not over hydration yourself ,

Just a suggestion, you can drink water when you wake-up 2 glass, afternoon after a meal 2 glass ,in-between slip abit of water,at night 2 glass.

If should just be enough to make you well hydration.

I wish you good health too.

    Have a nice day!

    Well,

The mirtazipine withdrawals started today after 5 days without, so I took 7.5mg earlier, it's totally ok cause my psychiatrist advised the tapering to every other day taking 7.5mg, so 5 days is fine with me, the thing is I'm taking more of the benzo's to combat the mirt wd, tricky cycle.

But the way I see it is, I have a condition and It requires medication to control, so I don't feel as guilty as I used too, I felt like a nervous wreck earlier, now I'm cool.

Taking meds is nothing to be ashamed of, just part of life and meds are there to help you,

Anyways hopefully another 5 days of the mirt,

Btw, does anyone else feel much more spaced out on a lesser dose of mirt? Cause I feel much more than before

    Cheers all

It's been 3 weeks for me now. And feel great. I'm beginning to wonder whether my doc was right in that it depends why you were put on Mirt as to the withdrawal symptoms you have.

Hi all, new to the discussion......been on Mirt since April last year, it hasn't really been doing me any good so decided to come off of it with my doctors' help. I have been cut down from 15mg to 7.5mg for 6 weeks

and for the past 10 days I have been taking 7.5mg and then half of this on alternate nights.

I am having the most horrible time, my symptoms are feeling feint with weak shaky legs, I feel sick with an

upset stomach and experience what feels like flu. I also wake up in the morning after not sleeping very good

in a panic. I feel at the end of my tether, some days are worse then others - for example I have just had two

reasonable days and today I feel dreadful again!. As the day progresses I gradually feel better until I go back to taking the evil pill again at night!

Please can someone assure me that what I am experiencing is the norm? My doctor is no help and

suggests I increase my dose again!

    Hello everyone;

I'm happy to have found this forum! My story is similar to to what remeron(mirtz) can do,even in a short period of use.

I was put on mirtz for sleep after discontinuing 5 years use of eszopiclone (lunesta). Lunesta is a benzo in

sheep clothing. The mirtz did help me sleep until the 5th week it was causeing adverse reaction after dosing.

It began to cause anxiety and increase heart rate after dosing. My time on mirtz was 5 weeks at a low dose of 4mg.

My last dose was on feb 8. Today makes 12days off. Three days ago feb18th is when I got slammed,

symptoms, chills, anxiety, deppresion, feeling like I can cry for any reason, headache, nausea, tinnitus, higher than norm blood pressure, sleeplessness & no appetite. I thought since I was only on 4 mg and 5 weeks of

use that I would not feel it. I know what benzo WD is and this is not it.

I truly would appreciate some of your experienes coming off and knowing everyone is different a ballpark on how long will I be dealing with this hell? Also since I'm I the begining stages of WD dose the clock begin when you get your first symtoms? And if there's any thing that has helped while going through this ?

    Thank you all

Just to let some people know that withdrawing from this drug can be pretty horrible. I took 30mg for 5 years and stopped, it made me Ill for a year after but I'm better, you do get better its worth going through this and coming off the drug, mirtazapine is a nasty drug with not nice side effects, it made me fat and more depressed, I feel great now, I've lost all the weight and im a lot. Happier, so I'm just saying that the withdrawal isn't nice at all but please carry on and get off it....good luck....
